Kanji struggled to get his locker open,"Damnit!" He tried the combination every way conceivable after all else failed he slammed his open palm near the lock and it gracefully open,"I'll make a note of that," he said to himself.
"So how's your first day at Capeside High?" Pacey said noticing the frustration on Kanji's face.
"Just peachy!" Kanji slammed his locker closed.
"Uh huh, just what's bothering you?" Pacey asked.
"You want by category or by alphabetical order?" Kanji said looking at his schedule.
"Be serious, I know this is no Seattle, but there's gotta be something that fuels you to go to school. I mean, these aren't exactly the most exciting teachers in the good ol US of A."
"How bout the fact that there's no cute girls here?" They both walked to lunch.
"Is that it? You're looking for a girlfriend already?" Pacey shook his head,"Well, you might as well skip school for the rest of the year, there are no cute girls."
"I can see that. C'mon, I'm hungry."

After lunch, Biology....

"Man, I thought my old school had bad lunch," Kanji picked an open seat by Pacey and sat down, exhausted and annoyed.
"Guess the mystery meat didn't make your day better, eh?" Pacey joked.
"Don't start with me." Joey then walks in and sits across the room,"Yo, Pace, who's that girl?"
"Pace? I have never had anybody call me Pace bef-"
"I don't care! Who's that girl?" Kanji interrupted.
"You're gonna have to be more specific than that, almost half the people in the classroom are girls."
"Y'know the one across the room," Kanji said, eyeing Joey.
"OK, that gets rid of half the girls, Kanji, you gotta help me out here if you want me to help you out," Pacey started looking at the other side of the class to find a half decent girl he could be talking about. Kanji buried his face in his hands.
"Of all the people to make new friends with, I end up with a smart-mouthed D-student who has not the slightest way of reading minds." Kanji thought aloud and pointed at Joey while still having his face in his hand.
"Are you sure you pointing to the right person? That's Joey Potter." Kanji opens one eye to make sure he wasn't talking about a guy.
"Yeah, I'm sure." Pacey started laughing uncontrollably now."C'mon Pacey, be serious, maybe you can introduce me or something."
"I can, but right now is not the time."

Kanji stood on the creek's edge, throwing stones into the lake. As he stared into the lake he noticed another blurry image appearing beside his own reflection, he couldn't make it out since the ripples of the water blurred the reflection, soon it settled and Joey was standing behind him. "Uh, hello?" Joey said as she stepped up.
Kanji's heart started pounding, damnit, now's not the time! Kanji spun around nervously "Uh....h,hhu...hi!" Kanji started stuttering. Pacey was about to meet Kanji, but turns out that he already started getting aquainted. Pacey hid behind a tree and watched Kanji do his magic, whatever little magic he had.
"So you're new around here?" Joey asked.
"Y,ye, yeah. I came from S,s,s,Seattle. N,na,name's Kkkkkk...kan,kan-"
"Jee?" Joey finished. Kanji nodded, much easier for him to do. "Well, nice to meet you Kanji. Josephine Potter, but friends call me Joey," Joey shook his hand and walked off.
As soon as Pacey was sure that Joey was gone, Pacey ran to Kanji's side who continued to skip stones.
Kanji make an ass out of himself. After she leaves, "Oh I think she wants you. Smooth going Romeo, just-"
"If you value being able to sit down again, I suggest you stop with the backhanded compliments" Kanji interrupted and turned to Pacey,"Y'know, Pace, since I first stepped a foot inside Capeside High, you've came at me with more one-liners than a Jim Carrey flick." Pacey raised a brow, as Kanji seemed relieved. "Thanks for making me feel welcomed to Capeside." Kanji extended a hand.
"Ah...shucks, no prob." Pacey then shook hands with Kanji."Y'know, if you want another chance to talk to her, I can arrange for you guys to meet."
"Now's not a good time, Pacey, you saw how I reacted, you think I can seriously have a conversation with her?"
"Good point, say, catcha later, I gotta go, see ya ok?" Pacey seemed in a hurry but Kanji didn't bother making him stay and walked along slowly along the creek banks. Smooth sailing you dolt! Kanji said to himself and he left for home.

Dawson sat on the edge of his bed, flipping through the channels like usual. Soon he heard someone coming up the ladder and Pacey stuck his head in through the window. "Hey Dawson, can we talk?" Pacey then let himself in. Dawson turned off the TV and turned his attention towards Pacey.
"Sure, what's up?"
"You know that Capeside has a new student right?" Pacey sat down at Dawson's desk.
"Yeah, the Asian guy?"
"His name is Kanji, Dawson. Well, anyways, I pretty much hung out with him all day, turns out he has a thing for Joey already." Pacey sorted through the things on the desk.
"No way, you serious?" Dawson laid down on his bed.
"I was thinking of telling him that she's your girlfriend, but I don't know if that's wise."
"Then what are we gonna do? I mean he's likely gonna ask her out."
"Well, my friend, that's not too likely. You see, he sorta has this problem with girls."
"Really, what kind of problem?"
"He gets cold feet when confronted by them."
"You mean he tried to talk to her already?
"Tried. He couldn't help stuttering while just simply getting aquainted." Pacey got up again,"I guess for now it's best to sit back and see what happens. Just dropped by to let you know," Pacey climbed out of the window,"see ya Dawson."
"You think we should tell Joey?" Dawson followed.
"Maybe not yet." Pacey disappeared through the window.

"Hey, kiddo!" Kanji's says as he enters the kitchen.
"Mom, your walking?" Kanji looks in surprise since Yukie should be in bed.
"I guess I'm getting better, besides I'm not gonna have my son eat his grandma's cooking on his first day at Capeside." Yukie replies.
"Mother, it's okay. Then again, Grandma isn't exactly the best cook." Kanji dips his index finger into the soup and licks his finger."Mmmmm, shark fin."
"So, you made any friends, any girls go after my son yet?" Yukie joked.
"Yeah, it's not like people flock to meet a new kid right away, Mom." Yukie giggles.
"Dinner will be ready soon, why don't you check out your room?" Yukie asks.
"You did my room? Which one?" Kanji starts out the kitchen.
"Upstairs, first room on the right." Kanji rushed to see how his mother prepared his room, she knows him well enough to customize his room to his taste. He swung the door open and was surprised to see that his room was almost identical. Posters of various martial arts movies and Japanese cartoons decked the place. Kanji dropped his backpack and ran back downstairs to Yukie.
"Thanks, Mom! How'd you know?" Kanji hugged Yukie.
"You're my son, you think that just because I haven't seen you in five years, I don't know what you like?" Yukie turns off the stove and brings the rest of the food into the dining room.
"Where's Grandma and Grandpa?" Kanji sits across the rather small table from his mom.
"Your grandpa is still at his restaurant and your grandma is out shopping, don't wait for them." Kanji starts eating.
"Say Mom, you think it would be okay if I give myself a tour of Capeside?" Kanji asks.
"You wanna give yourself a tour? If I remember correctly yesterday, all you did was complain about how boring this place was to Seattle."
"Well, I said that since I have no idea how things are around here. Can I borrow the car?" Kanji asks intently. Yukie smiles.
"There's something better for you, check the garage after you're done eating."

Kanji steps into the garage and flips the light switch, Yukie standing in the door way. What Kanji sees causes his jaw to drop open. "Close your mouth before the flies get in Kanji." Yukie jokes,"You like it? Your grandfather bought it since I told him you like motorcycles. You wanted navy blue right?"
"Mother, I wouldn't care about the color, I always wanted one ever since I knew how to drive."
"Well, kiddo, rev up your engines and have a nice night in town."
"I will, Mom. Thanks!" Kanji kissed Yukie on the cheek and walked the bike out.

*********************
Kanji arrived early at school the next day, almost hitting Pacey with his motorcycle,"Whoa, sorry." He said as he brought it to a stop in the parking lot,"I still have to get use to this thing."
"Where did you jack that baby?" Pacey asked, walking around it. Kanji got off and threw his backpack over his shoulder.
"Gramps bought it for me." Kanji and Pacey walked into the school and ended up at their lockers.
"Where did your gramps come up with the money?" Pacey asked as Kanji used his trick of opening the locker with a strike."You know, that trick of yours is pretty handy."
"Yeah thanks. I don't know where he gets the money, but you know what? I ain't complaining." Pacey nodded in agreement

Kanji sat down with his lunch, sitting alone at the table. Soon a girl about his age sat next to him, without a lunch. "Hi, you must be the new kid, Kanji was it?" she asked.
"Oh, they mention my name too? News spreads fast around here then." Kanji said, not trying to pay any attention to the girl.
She then extends a hand,"Colleen Houlihan," Kanji sheepishly shakes her hand a forces a half smile while still eating. "Actually, if you didn't bother to notice, I have a five out of your seven periods."
"Really?" Kanji asked sarcastically, not caring much. Colleen whipes the smile from her face.
"Are you always this rude, or is it just towards girls?" Colleen asks. Kanji then realizes his behavior.
"Sorry, didn't mean to be so rude, I'm not making a very good impression am I?" Kanji asks, now more serious.
"You must be going through a sort of 'new kid syndrome,'" she jokes. Kanji manages to smile. "Not to sound like I'm hitting on you or anything, but you're kinda cute, just lose the rude exterior." Colleen gets up and walks away. "See ya in biology Kanji. Take it easy."
"Wow Kanji, on your second day and you can already attract girls, must be the cycle." Pacey says as he sits besides him, taking a fry away from Kanji's hand just as he was about to put it in his own mouth.
"I was planning on finishing that, Pace."
"Sorry, just didn't want to bother going through the line for such a small meal."
"Well, at least this pizza isn't gonna make me sick like the mystery meat." Kanji replies.
"Just wait till you see tomorrow's menu."
"Don't tell me, I rather be terrified." Kanji joked.

Joey opened her locker and a white envelope with her name on it fell out of her locker."I wonder who could this be from." Joey opened it and found it was a love letter from Kanji. She smiled at the thought of someone having a crush on her,"This is new." Dawson walked by to say hi. "Hey Dawson, check this out." She showed him the letter, which made him giggle.
"So what are you gonna do?" Dawson asked.
"I guess I'm gonna have to tell him that there can't be anything between me and him, I mean I can't date two guys at once." Joey said, her back against the locker.
"Maybe you should try acting like you didn't get it." Dawson suggested.
"I guess that will work," Joey said."I gotta go to class, see ya." Joey kissed Dawson on the cheek and walked the opposite way.

This time around, Kanji sat next to Colleen, though not by choice since she gave herself the liberty of becoming his friend. Before class started, three girls sat on the table talking to Kanji, who, like Colleen at first, he shrugged off.
"You know, you're doing a good job at avoiding the right people," Colleen commented. "You don't think I was trying to be like those girls, did you?" she asked.
"Uh, yeah. I usually try to steer clear from girls, I guess it's a tendency."

"God how pathetic, damn right I'll forget about this stupid letter," Joey said to herself and tore up the letter without Kanji seeing. "I guess I'm just one of his targets."
"Whoa, don't you think that's a little harsh Jo? How can you be sure that they aren't the ones flirting?" Pacey asked as he sat down beside her.
"What do you know about him?" Joey asked, clearly angry.
"More than you do, Miss So Quick to Judge. I happen to be the first friend he's made." Pacey defended. "Believe me, I only met him for one day and I can already tell that he's not that kind of person. Anyways, you shouldn't make the same mistake with him as you did with Jen, okay?" Pacey coaxed.
"All right, I'll try not to be a first class bitch."
"That's my Joey!"
