Happy Together

Disclaimer: No cutesy disclaimers this time, I mean, how many ways are there to say I don't own DC? Wow..I said it plain and straightforward..go me!

"Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night
It's only right
To think about the girl you love
And hold her tight
So happy together

If I should call you up
Invest a dime
And you say you belong to me
And ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be
So very fine
So happy together

I can't see me loving nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me
Baby the skies will be blue
For all my life

Me and you
And you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice
It had to be
The only one for me is you
And you for me
So happy together

I can't see me loving nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me
Baby the skies will be blue
For all my life

Me and you
And you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice
It had to be
The only one for me is you
And you for me
So happy together

Me and you
And you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice
It had to be
The only one for me is you
And you for me
So happy together
So happy together
How is the weather
So happy together
We're happy together
So happy together..."
-The Turtles "Happy Together"

Joey snuggled deeper into Dawson's arms, wishing she could be there forever. It had been so long since he had held her close, so long since she had smelt his aftershave that smelled like pine, so long since his kisses had washed away every fear she ever felt.

That nagging voice at the back of her head was still there telling her that the moment could only last so long, but for the first time in months the optimistic voice in her head-the one that told the other voice to 'Bite me' drowned out the nagging voice. It was a comforting feeling.

Dawson drew Joey closer, not wanting to let her go. It was like old time. Just him and Joey lying together on his bed, E.T. playing on the television, with the rest of the world put on hold until their time together was gone. And this time no one-not Scott, not Valerie, no one would tear them apart.

Cliff and Jen were hanging out at the local ice cream parlor with a bunch of kids after the dance when Valerie walked up to the table. Cliff was sitting there alone while Jen was in the bathroom. Valerie couldn't have planned it better herself.

"Oh Cliff," she said, making the biggest doe eyes she could, "I feel just horrible after that whole scene with Dawson and Josephine. I had no right to go off like that. And I tried to apologize but they turned their backs on me. Oh Cliff what do I do?"

Cliff wanted to be upset with her-after all, she had started a fight over nothing, been rude to Dawson, who, as far as Cliff knew and from what Jen told him, was an ok guy. He didn't know much about Joey, but she seemed pretty nice too. But Cliff couldn't stay mad at Valerie. After all, they were good friends.

"It's ok Val," he said, "They'll get over it. But I think you had best stay away from Dawson. Him and Joey were destined to be together, everyone in Capeside knows that."

Before Valerie could reply, Jen walked up. Not disguising her hate for the girl, Jen pulled a Tatem line from 'Scream.' "Nice welt, sweetie," she said, smiling at Valerie. Valerie glared at Jen, wanting to push her out in the middle of traffic. Cliff just shook his head, not wanting to be upset with eiher of them.

"Cliff, dear," Valerie said, accentuating the 'dear' mainly to piss off Jen, "could you take me home?"

Cliff was about to offer to say 'ok,' but from the evil looks Jen was giving Valerie, he figured he'd better not. "Sorry Val," Cliff said, "I can only take Jen home. Dad's rule."

"Oh," Val said, frowning, "Well I guess I'll see you."

Jen and Cliff left, leaving Val behind. 'Well,' Val thought, 'Jen's going to be harder to get by then I thought. I'd better go have a chat with Abby.'

Pacey nearly choked on his soda with laughter after he saw how Valerie's face twisted when Jen left with Cliff. "That girl has problems," he said, shaking his head. Kathleen laughed slightly, not really sure how to react. Everything was so different from her old life, she wasn't sure what to make of it.

"Did you see the way Valerie went down when Joey decked her?" Pacey said excitedly, "Man Joey should join the wrestling team."

A brief flash of jealousy went through Kathleen. Pacey had been talking about Joey all night long. It was almost like he was in love with her...Kathleen brushed that thought out of her head. It was proposterous...but that little flash was still there...tiny, but there.

The bell on the door rang and Doug walked in looking upset. "Oh boy," Pacey said, "I wonder what Striesand wants this time."

Doug walked up to Pacey, glaring. Before Doug could say anything, Pacey smiled and said, "hey Siegfried, where's Roy? Or did you two break up?"

"Cute Pacey, real cute," Doug said, "Dad wants you and the car home now. I'd suggest you get moving."

"You say that with such lapdog enthusiasm," Pacey said, mimicking a line he had used a while back, "can't you see I'm on a date?"

"So cut it short," Doug said, "I'm sure she's dying to go home after a night with you."

Pacey didn't want to get in a fight with Doug in front of Kathleen so, sighing, he turned to Kathleen and said, "Ready to go?"

Kathleen shook her head. "That's ok, you go ahead. I can walk back. My house isn't that far."

"You sure?" Pacey asked.

"Yeah," Kathleen said, "Besides, I should stay here and mingle. I should probably get to know some of the people here."

"Ok," Pacey said, kissing her on the cheek, "I'll see you later."

"Bye," Kathleen said, as Doug led an arguing Pacey out.

Kathleen sat at the table, finishing her ice cream when a dark-haired girl walked up. "Hi," the girl said, "My name's Abby..."

Gail hugged Mitch tightly and tried to console herself. "I'm sorry it had to be this way," she said into his hair.

Mitch bit his lip, not wanting to start crying himself. "I'm sorry too," he said, "but I just don't think we can work it out."

Gail broke away and wiped her eyes. "I really messed up, huh?" she said sadly.

Mitch looked at her sympathetically. "I can't help but feel that part of it was my fault too. It takes two to make a marriage work...and two to break it up."

"So when do we tell Dawson about the divorce?" Gail asked, worried about how her son would react.

"I don't know," Mitch said, "And I'm not sure I want to tell him just yet."

Dawson and Joey were at school the next day, basically making out in the hall, when Pacey walked up looking upset.

"Hey Romeo and Juliet," Pacey said, "Do you need to take a cold shower?"

Dawson grinne mischieviously and said, "Only if we could take one together." Joey elbowed him.

"Hey, earth to the lovebirds," Pacey said, "Have either of you seen Kathleen? I was supposed to drive her to school, but when I got to her house, she had already left. Her line was busy all night and I haven't seen her at all today."

Dawson shrugged and said, "Sorry man, haven't seen her."

"Uh, Pacey," Joey said, "I think I found her."

Pacey turned his head to see Kathleen-decked out in a short mini, tank top, and leather jacket-standing with Abby and her crowd.

Joey, Dawson, and Pacey's mouths dropped. "Oh...my...god," Dawson said.

"Excuse me," Pacey said, dazed. He walked over to Kathleen, who greeted him with a deep french kiss.

"See ya guys," Kathleen said to her friends.

"Bye Kath," Abby and her gang said.

"Hey Pacey," Kathleen said, smiling.

"Wow," Pacey said, "You look...different."

Kathleen shrugged. "I just decided to try something different. I met Abby last night, she introduced me to her friends and lent me an outfit. I kinda like it."

Pacey grinned evilly. "I've never objected to a girl in leather," he said. Kathleen giggled and tossed her hair, uncharacteristic for her. Pacey was still a bit confused but then he thought, "oh well, she's just finding herself."

*****

Valerie walked up to Abby in the halls at lunch. "Abs," she said, "got any ideas?"

"As a matter of fact, I do," Abby said, "The absolute perfect one."

Valerie grinned and said, "I'm all ears."
