Running Out Of Time

Jen and Pacey waited at his house in the morning till Billy called. Jen answered the phone, and talked to him. Pacey sat on his bed as he watched Jen jotting down notes from what she was hearing from Billy. She said her goodbyes, and hung up the phone. She picked up the pad of paper, and walked over to Pacey.

"Okay this is all the information Billy could scrounge up," she said sitting down by him on his bed. "There was a party at his house the night his dad killed him and his mom. The kids, that were sober enough to remember anything that night, say that he had a fight over the phone with his father that made his parents come home before scheduled to come home." she paused. "The all left leaving Eric to clean the mess up himself. But there was one kid that was still there when his parents got home. He was passed out in the kitchen. Which was where the fire alarm was. When he heard Eric start yelling at his father for killing his sister, he pulled the alarm. Now the next part was said from the mouth of the kid in the kitchen," she said looking up from the pad of paper, and standing up. "He heard Eric confront his mother about the murder of his sister. Apparently his mother didn't watch the news or the newspapers, because she had no idea that her husband killed their daughter. That was why she took him back when he got out of jail. She was shocked to find out the news that he was the murderer that killed her daughter. Eric knew that his dad had taken out the '44 Magnum and was pointing it at his head. But he didn't shoot Eric, he hit him over the head instead, but not that hard. Eric was slightly conscious when the boy left the house after his dad started to be chased by the cops. After that no one knows what happened." Jen said standing still after she finished.

"So, then we have nothing really." Pacey said. "Great." He said lying back on his bed.

"No, see . . . I forgot to tell you this." Jen said, sitting down next to Pacey. "The boy thought that Eric was gonna kill his father, because the tone of his voice was scaring the crap out of him. He said it was like 'hearing the voice and laugh of death in the house'. Apparently Eric laughed at his dad for pointing the gun at him."

"So the kid was scared." Pacey said, leaning up from the bed. "So . . . "

"Look, I know he is trouble, and we should at least warn Joey and Dawson when they get home tomorrow. Okay?" Jen said almost pleading.

"Fine . . . but you are talking. Not me." he said.

"Fine." she said smiling. She hugged him. "Thanks for trying to help me on this Pacey. You didn't have to."

"You're welcome. The only reason I helped was because I don't like the guy either. He is slightly creepy." He said hugging her back.

(in this scene it will go through Dawson and Joey's touring Boston with this song playing in the background. Think of an episode of your favorite couple on any soap when they are going around having fun, and a song is playing throughout their time there . . . kay? The song is: 'Looking Through Your Eyes' sung by LeAnn Rimes-and/or Bryan White. The lyrics will be at the end of this scene . . . for those who don't know it.)

Dawson and Joey started this day at the Franklin Park Zoo. They walked through the Tropical Rain Forest pavilion, and they stayed around the monkeys exhibit for a long time. It was funny watching them monkey around. They walked around the park looking at all the exhibits. They bought a hot dog and drink at one of the food stands, and ate lunch there.

After the park they went back to Salem to visit The Haunted Witch Village. This stop was Dawson's idea. He wanted to see the haunted house. They went inside, and Dawson snuck up on Joey a couple times scaring her, like he loved to do. Each time he did she laughed, screamed, and hit him. But that didn't stop him. He just kept doing it again, and again.

After the Witch Village, they went back to Boston, and went to the Great Meadows national Wildlife Refuge. They saw many wildlife species there, some they never saw before. And they visited the national history museum. Dawson decided to end the day on a fun note, and took Joey to their last destination.

They went to the Public Garden Between Arlington and Charles Street. They looked around the formal gardens and rare trees. They saw the setting for McCloskey's Make Way for Ducklings, and a duckling sculpture. They took a Swan Boat Ride, and got a little wet on that. But to end the evening they tried the ice-skating. Dawson and Joey fell a couple of times, but the made it around the ring laughing, and having fun. Joey did a few twirls, and Dawson felt like they were in the movie "Splash" and he was Tom Hanks, and Joey was Daryl Hannah. They tried skating together, but they ended up falling down a lot.

Dawson and Joey stopped at a restaurant on the way back to the hotel, and grabbed a small dinner.

(Lyrics to the song: Look at the sky tell me what do you see
Just close your eyes and describe it to me
The heavens are sparkling with starlight tonight.
That's what I see through your eyes.
I see the heavens each time that you smile
I hear your heartbeat just go on for miles
And suddenly I know why life is worth while.
That's what I see through your eyes.
That what I see though your eyes.
Here in the night I see the sun
Here in the dark our two hearts are one.
It's out of our hands, we can't stop what we have begun
And love just took me by surprise,
Looking through your eyes.
I see a night I wish would last forever
I see a world we're meant to see together
And it is so much more then I remember.
More than I remember, more than I have known.
Here in the night I see the sun
Here in the dark our two hearts are one.
It's out of our hands, we can't stop what we have begun.
And love just took me by surprise looking through your eyes.
Now on with the story...)

Eric was sitting in his living room making his plans for the next evening. Joey and Dawson would be home from their vacation. He would have to make sure Joey ends up being home that night, or else he would have to rearrange all his plans. He would make sure he had an extra plan ready just in case she isn't at home that evening.

Eric knew that taking her away at night, she would put up a fight, so...he came prepared. He brought ammonia. He would place a little bit on a napkin, and place it over her mouth. That will make sure she doesn't wake up too soon. She would also not stay with him on her own, since she supposedly 'loves' the Leery guy. So he would need to use the two sets of handcuffs he has to handcuff her to the bed in the cabin, and the rope he has to tie her feet down. He would blindfold her, and tape her mouth shut so she wouldn't scream. When he gets her to the cabin she will be able to scream as much as she wanted, no one would hear her.

"This will work..." he thought. "And when Dawson comes I will kill him. Get rid of that pest."

*****

Jen and Pacey walked around town, and talked about how exactly they were gonna tell Dawson and Joey that Eric could be a psycho killer or something.

"Remember, we have no proof that he is any danger." Pacey said. "Except he is jealous and extremely angry with Dawson for taking Joey away from him."

"Yeah, I know." Jen said stopping on the dock that she ended up at the night of the dance when she first got to town.

"So, they are due back at noon. I was gonna pick them up, do you want to come with me?" he asked.

"No I think I want to try and get into that trunk of Eric's see what he has in there." Jen said, looking off at the water.

"Why? And you shouldn't go alone." he said, concerned.

"I have to." she said, looking at him. Her hair blowing into her face. She moved her hair behind her ear. "The damaging evidence is in there. I know it."

"Look, even if the 'damaging evidence' is in there...there is no way you can break it open. You need the key." he said.

"Not necessarily. I learned a few lock picking tricks getting into locked doors in New York." she said with a smile.

"Jen, please. Don't I don't need to be worrying about you while I get Dawson and Joey from the airport. Ok?" he asked her.

"Fine, Pacey." she lied. "I won't go to his house tomorrow."

"Thank you." he said.

I'll just go after I ditch you someplace today, she thought.

*****

Dawson called his mom when he got back to the hotel.

"Hey mom." he said. "How is everything there?...Yeah, Joey and me have been having a great time here. You and dad should come out here...Yeah, I won three awards...Best Plot, Best casting, and best director...Yeah now I am definitely closer to be another Spielberg, mom...Yeah, love you too...tell dad I love him...Yeah,...Oh, by the way who is picking Jo and me up at the airport tomorrow morning...Pacey?..." Dawson saw Joey's feared expression at the sound of Pacey's name. "No, that's fine...Why won't you or dad be picking us up?...Oh, another appointment...No that's great...yeah, I'll talk to you guys tomorrow...Bight, mom." Dawson hung up the phone and looked at Joey.

"You have to be kidding me, Dawson?" Joey said sitting in the chair taking off her shoes. "Pacey can't be picking us up?"

"I am afraid he is, Jo." Dawson said, smiling as he laid back on the bed.

"He is a crazy driver, Dawson." Joey said.

"Your opinion. I guess my mom trusts him more than you do." he said.

"Obviously." she said standing up taking her shoes and throwing them into the closet.

"So, do you want to go and choose a movie to watch? Or what?" Dawson asked sitting back up.

"Yeah, I'll go choose the movie, and you stay up here, and order us some snacks or something. Kay?" Joey said walking to the door, but before he could argue she already left through the door.

"Sure..." he said, picking up the phone.

*****

Jen ditched Pacey at the cinema. He went to buy tickets for them to see the latest movie, but she left as soon as he started walking up to the window. Jen was determined to get inside that trunk, and she had to do it tonight. She would pay Pacey back for the ticket to the movie she wouldn't see. She ran halfway to Eric's and walked the rest of the way.

Jen hated Eric's house. There was no lights inside to let her know if he was home or not, and so she had to take her chances. She hoped he was gone. She snuck around to the back, and looked inside the door. She saw the fireplace was started, so he must be home. She would get in try the trunk, and get out as fast as she could. She opened the door, and walked inside. Shutting the door quietly behind her, and quietly walked over to the trunk. She knelt down beside it, and a hair clip out of her right shorts pocket. She bent it to a shape, and placed it inside the lock. She fiddled it around till she heard a click. She looked behind her, and didn't see him.

Jen placed the hair clip back in her pocket, and opened the lid. She saw a blanket with odds and ends on it. She removed the blanket, and saw guns. Not just guns though. She saw rope, a dagger, binoculars, and a '44 Magnum.

"Oh my God..." she whispered.

"So, you had to be Mrs. Detective, huh Jen?" she heard Eric's voice behind her.

Jen turned around and saw him staring down over her.

"Well, I guess I'll have to deal with you now." he said, smiling. He grabbed her arm, and pulled her up to her feet. "Now, I can't kill you. At least not right now...so...I'll just tie you up, knock you out, and take you to a little place I discovered in the woods. I think you'll like it. But I am afraid you'll have to suffer here for now."

"What are you going to do, Eric?" she asked, terrified as to what he was planning.

"Oh, you'll see soon enough." he said. He dragged her upstairs, with his hand over her mouth and Jen trying to break free all the way.

*****

"Damn it!" Pacey exclaimed. "She ditched me, and now I am standing with two tickets." he said turning around. He couldn't see her anywhere, and he had no idea if she ditched him before he reached the window, or when he reached the window. He was slightly worried that she might have gone to Eric's to look in his trunk. But she had told him that she wouldn't go alone...tomorrow!! That means she could have gone now. Damn it, Jen, he thought. Pacey thought about going to Eric's to look for her, but he saw Abby coming up the walk to go to the movies with one of her friends. I can either give her and her friend the tickets, or try to get her to see the movie with me...but if I see the movie I will not be able to look for Jen...

"Hey Abby!" he exclaimed in her and her friends direction.

"Oh, Hi Pacey." she said smiling. "What are you doing here? This is my friend Claire."

"Hello, Claire." he said smiling. "So you guys gonna see the movie?"

"Yeah, but we have to buy the tickets first." Abby said trying to get by Pacey.

"Well, see that is why I am not moving." he said smiling.

"You don't want us to see the movie? Or what?" Claire asked him.

"No, I have two tickets here, and I thought you guys could use them more than I could right now." he said, handing them the tickets.

"Are you kidding Pacey?" Abby asked him, not sure if she should take the tickets.

"Yeah, I have a friend that I need to go and check on, and I can't see the movie after all...so, take the tickets." he said handing them to Abby. But she wouldn't take the tickets. He handed them to Claire, and sure enough she took them. "Enjoy the movie." he said taking off.

"He seems like a nice guy." Claire said, walking into the theater with Abby. "Not at all the Pacey that I heard you making fun of before."

"No, it's not the same Pacey." Abby said. "I mean it is the same Pacey, but he's changed somehow."

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"I don't know how to explain it Claire..." she said walking into the theater the movie was in.

"I think you are starting to like him, Abby." Claire said sitting down next to her.

"No I am not." Abby said, smiling her 'as if' smile.

"Sure...you are in such denial." she laughed.

"Let's just watch the movie, ok?" Abby said.

"Sure, whatever." Claire laughed.

*****

Dawson had ordered some popcorn and sodas up to the room. The perfect snack to have for a movie night in the hotel room. Dawson took off his shirt, and took off his belt. He laid on the bed waiting for Joey to get back to the room with the movie. He turned on the TV and left it on a comedy. He had never seen this show, and it was the only thing on at the moment.

"Hey, miss me." Joey said as she entered the room.

"Yep, what movie did you get?" Dawson said sitting up, and walking over to her.

"Here..." she said handing him the movie.

"Why did you choose this one? I thought you might have been sick of it by now." he said walking to the TV and VCR.

"Can't get sick of a classic, Dawson." she said. Joey grabbed her nightgown, and went to the bathroom to change.

Joey came back out of the bathroom in her night clothes. It was a short white top, and shorts. Simple, and comfortable. Unlike Dawson in his Jeans.

"Well, let's start our Movie Night away from home..." Dawson said smiling at her.

Joey grabbed a pillow, and joined him at the end of the bed. "Lets." she said smiling.

*****

Pacey arrived at Eric's as Eric walked out of the house. Pacey took a deep breath and hoped that he wouldn't find her here. He went around back, and tried the back door. It was still open, and he went inside. He went right upstairs, and looked in the rooms. He didn't find her in any of the rooms, but before he was to go back downstairs, he heard a noise from above his head.

The attic.

Pacey found the entrance to the attic in Eric's room. He pulled down the ladder, and climbed up. He looked around but didn't see anything. He looked in the direction of the last bedroom and saw movement. He went over there and found Jen.

She was knocked out, the movement he saw was the window blowing the sheet that was covering up some piece of furniture. Her hands were tied and bound behind her, and her feet were tied with the same rope. She was gagged and blindfolded.

"I told you not to come here alone." he said aloud. He picked her up, put her over his shoulder like Tarzan and climbed down the ladder. He went downstairs, and carrying her like a baby now, went out the patio door. Shutting it behind him.

He ran with her all the way to the ruins. He laid her down and untied her legs and hands. Then he slowly ungagged her mouth, than removed the blindfold.

"Jen?" he said, tapping her on the face. "Jen wake up." he said louder.

"Damn it, he really knocked you out cold." Pacey said aloud. "I'll have to take you to my place. I don't think your grams will be too happy with me bringing you home unconscious. Now do you? I thought not." he said picking her back up. "At least you aren't that heavy." He laughed.

*****

Eric returned home. He walked upstairs and to his room. The ladder to the attic was down, and Eric dropped the meal he had ordered for Jen on the floor. He climbed up the ladder, and walked at a fast pace to the corner he had her in.

"Damn it!!" he yelled. He ran downstairs, and to the patio door. It was shut, but not locked. Not locking that door was going to be is downfall. He went outside, but saw no sign of anyone there. He tightened his fists as he went back inside. He checked the trunk. It was opened, at least that was a good sign. She wasn't awake to tell whoever saved her about the weapons he had. Maybe whoever found her doesn't know me, he thought. And therefore won't believe her when she accuses me of having these weapons. He could only hope. His plans depend on it...

*****

Dawson loved E.T. and he could watch it forever. But what surprised him the most was that Joey had picked it out of plenty of other good movies. He knew, he called the desk and asked what movies there were to choose from.

"So, why did you really choose this movie Joey?" Dawson asked her.

"Because like I said it was the only good one there worthy to watch as a movie night movie." she said.

"Ok, just checking." he said smiling.

"So are we gonna tell everyone that we are a couple or are we gonna repeat what happened before?" Joey asked her eyes still on the movie.

"What do you mean?" Dawson asked turning to look at her.

"Well, last time we got together you wouldn't tell Jen that we were together." she said sitting up. "Come to think of it you wouldn't tell Pacey either."

"I didn't know how to tell them, and I thought it would hurt Jen's feelings. I thought we went over this Joey." Dawson said leaning on his side, looking up at her.

"We went over it, but we didn't discuss the issue." she said.

"Well, what was I suppose to say to them Joey, 'Joey and me are going out'" he said sarcastically.

"Yeah, something like that Dawson. It wouldn't have been that hard." she said.

"Oh, and you sitting down at our table with that stranger, Eddie, or whatever his name is sure shows that we are a couple." he said sitting up.

"His name is Eric, and like I told you my counselor wanted me to show him a around campus, and show him to our classes. We are only friends, Dawson. I thought you would figure that out." she said getting off the bed.

The movie ended, and Joey put in Dawson's movie. She pushed play and walked to the window.

"Well, it didn't look that way to me when I saw you guys at the movies together." Dawson said.

"You spied on me? Gee, thanks. I went with him as a friend, Dawson." she said turning to face him.

"No I wasn't spying in you." he said definitely. "I went to the movies to think. I thought I saw you and him run out of the theater. I followed to see if I was right. If it was you. I spotted you at the dock, you know the same dock that me and Jen danced...well, what I saw then sure didn't seem like 'just friends' Jo." he said getting of the bed, and walking toward her.

"And what was that Dawson?" she asked stepping toward him her arms on her hips.

"I heard him give you this long speech, and then I saw him kiss you. And you can't deny that you kissed back, because I saw you wrap your arms around him." he said. There was pain in his voice, but he didn't show it on his face.

"Fine, but its not like you never kissed Jen, Dawson." she said back.

"Fine, but at least I got to know her first. We don't know this guy, Joey!" he said.

"I know him well enough, Dawson. But he's just a friend, why can't you believe me?" she asked him, walking away.

"I do trust you, Joey. More than anyone in my life." he said turning around.

"So, what are you gonna do when we get home, Dawson?" she asked him crossing her arms in front of her.

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"Are you gonna tell Jen and Pacey that we are together? Or should I do it?" she asked him.

"WE will tell them, how about that?" he said, smiling.

"Sounds...fine!" she said throwing the pillow at him.

"Oh, you wanna pillow fight now do you?" he said smiling and throwing a pillow at her.

"That was a lousy throw, Dawson." she said laughing.

"Okay than,...lets do something different then." he said, he leaped across the bed, and pulled her down.

"What are you doing Dawson?" she said smiling.

"This..." he started tickling her.

"Oh...no...you...don't..."she said laughing in-between words. She started tickling him back. They rolled over the bed, and ended up in the middle of the bed.

They stopped tickling each other, and just stared at each other for awhile. Joey's hands on both sides of Dawson's head holding her up. Dawson's hands were on her sides. Their faces were about five inches apart.

Dawson leaned up and kissed Joey. They kissed a long passionate kiss. Dawson turned over, making Joey on the bottom. They continued to kiss. Dawson's hands going from up and down Joey's back, and through her hair. Joey's hands doing the same. Dawson stopped kissing, and looked at Joey with a smile. Joey smiled back, and ran her right hand over the left side of Dawson's face.

"Joey, are we..." he asked, skeptical.

"Yeah, unless you don't want to..." she said.

"No, I want to...I just want to make sure you do." he said.

"Dawson, I am ready for the changes this will bring our way. But if you aren't I understand." she said. The long pause that followed gave Joey what she thought was the answer. "Okay." she said smiling. She moved from under Dawson's arms and body and got off the bed. She walked to the window.

Dawson wasn't sure what he was thinking anymore. The one thing that was certain though was that he loved Joey, and wanted to be with her. But he wasn't sure if he wanted the changes that would come with them getting closer than they were used to. He thought he wanted to be that way with Jen, but this was Joey. He sat up on the bed, and stared at Joey. His best friend since he could remember. Was he really ready for all the changes that would happen if they got closer? Yes, that was the answer. He has been ready since he realized he loved her. He jumped off the bed, and went over to Joey.

(The song that begins to play here is "From This Moment On" sung by Shania Twain and Bryan White. Lyrics is at the end of the scene...)

"Joey, I am ready." he said. He leaned down and kissed her.

"You sure, Dawson?" she asked making sure.

"Absolutely." he said.

They walked over to the bed hand in hand. They started to kiss, Joey bent down and sat on the bed. Dawson stood there, watching her move up the bed. She extended her hand for him to take it. Dawson took it, and they laid down. Kissing each other. (If this was an actual episode this is what would happen next-- The camera would slowly go from them to the floor, and show Joey's shirt fall to the floor, followed by her shorts, and Dawson's pants. Then the camera would slowly fade out.)

(Song lyrics are: I just swear
That I'll always be there
I'd give anything and everything
And I will always care
Through weakness and strength
Happiness and sorrow
For better or for worse
I will love you
With every beat of my heart
From this moment life has begun
From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
From this moment on
From this moment I have been blessed
I love only for your happiness
And for your love
I'd give my last breath
From this moment on
I give my hand to you with all my heart
Can't wait to live my life with you
Can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you
From this moment as long as I live
I will love you
I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give
From this moment on
You're the reason I believe in love
And you're the answer to my prayers from up above
All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you
From this moment as long as I live
I will love you
I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give
From this moment on
I will love you (I will love you)
As long as I live
From this moment on
mmmmmmm

Jen woke up in Pacey's room on his bed. She bolted up still thinking she was in Eric's house. When she realized that she was back at Pacey's, she tried to get up, but the pounding in her head made her too dizzy to try and walk. Pacey came into the room soon after that.

"How are you feeling, Jen?" he asked sitting down on the bed a little bit away from her.

"Besides the pounding of my head, and that I am more afraid of that guy than ever...I am fine." she said with a sarcastic smile.

"I told you not to go alone." he said.

"I know, so sue me Pacey. But the proof is there...and I found it." she said.

"What are you talking about?" he asked, confused. "What did you find in there?"

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you Pacey." she said. Forgetting about the headache, she got up any ways.

"Try me, Jen." he said.

"I broke into the trunk, and just like I thought he is hiding everything in there." she said.

"What??" he asked standing up.

"I don't how he got all of it...but he did." she said. "He has guns, rope, handcuffs, ammonia, knives...I mean its like an arsenal in that trunk, Pacey!" she said walking up to him.

"So you saw all of this?" he asked, not sure he was believing this.

"Yes, I swear to you. And he talked about some place but I can't think of where..." she said holding her head.

"Lie back down. I'll go tell Deputy Doug about this ok?" he said helping her back to his bed.

"Okay," she said lying down.

Pacey left the room, but he had one problem...Deputy Doug wasn't gonna be home for a few days. He left to help in some other small town on a case. I'll worry about it later. There is no way Eric Randall could be that armed.
