Surrounded
As the bus pulled into the city, a feeling of uncanny quietness slowly filled the air. Deadly
silence evaded the passengers on the bus as they realized there were no other cars or
pedestrians filling the usually busy streets. The street light was green, but no bikes or cars
were congesting the streets.
The driver let out a long sigh as he drove father into the city. Without knowing
how to speak English well, he couldn’t come up with a way to calm the terrified
passengers.
“This reminds me of a Stephen King novel I read awhile ago,” commented a girl
sitting by herself, only a bit before a young child cried and interrupted her thoughts.
Chaos reigned in the bus.
All of a sudden the bus terminal was visible a block from the bus. It continued on
its eerie journey into the building, where it finally disembarked. Many other buses were
also lined up, with no passengers in sight.
With a sudden pop, the door opened and the driver demanded everybody to get
out. As they quickly gathered their things, the driver’s voice became a bellow which forced
the passengers to the point of leaving without their things.
Up the escalator went some of the passengers, wondering in fascination why it was
so quiet. As they started walking on the ground floor(mind you, some buses pick up and
disembark on the bottom floor), they became even more upset and scared. Was
somebody playing a nasty trick on them? Who would come up with such an idea in the
first place? The doors laid wide open as they left the building. Coming up to a row of
t.v.’s, they noticed a press conference going on. The only strange thing was that the
speakers didn’t appear human.
“Evacuation of the city is immenint. If you
do not leave the city in 1400 hours, it is
your foolish decision. Reoccupation will occur in 1400 hours. There’s no way to hinder
this decision.
With recent terroist threats imposing, they were wondering if it could’ve been that
which was happening. After realizing that they didn’t have a human figure, they thought
differently. A strange noise enveloped them from a helicopter flying higly above: “Save
yourselves before it’s too late,” screamed the pilot. With that comment, the helicopter
took off.
The sky darkened as hundreds of strange ships suddenly sailed above. Some
appeared to land in adjacent streets, while others loomed above. One landed several
hundred yards down the street from them. Its doors slowly opened as many others started
to land near it. Some landed on the roofs of fellow buildings, while others also landed in
the street.
A lean figure emerged from the ship, with several others in its wake. As they
noticed the humans standing there, their expressions first appeared questioning, then
angry. The unnatural creatures walked slowly towards them, their expressions becoming
angrier by the minute.
The people turned around and quickly ran, only than realizing that there were
several hundred more behind them. They were trapped. It was their fate to be there at
that time. “Why me?” thought all the passengers of the doomed bus. As they looked
back at their plentiful lives, they were immediately devoured by the crowd of strange
beings. Their happy lives were over.
