in the middle of the highway the stars shone brightly overhead

giving the man an aura

who stood so placidly in the middle of the road

waiting for anything to come

to give him a sign of the future

he knew it would

he knew it was the right night

to feel

to pretend

to give in

a beat up station wagon passed by

the driver threw his beer bottle at the man

laughed as the brilliant red covered his dull eyes

and the stars shone no more

only a shooting star
