Good Governance

Good governance is legitimate, competent, ad accountable, fosters social and political development, alleviates poverty, protects the environment, respects human rights and the tule of law. Good governance is essential to business, economic and political progress and human development.



Is there a model of good governance to use?

There is no paradigm for good governance,only a set of standards as expressed in national and international charters as signed by the United Nations, that if applied, can be a good foundation for governing.

The National Committee for Foree and Fair Elections is program to raise the standards of governance and make governament more responsive to the needs and wishes of the people



Good governance depends on the people

The legitimacy of Government depends on wether it has the consent of those that it governs. Good governance encourages and facilitates the participation of all groups in society



Good Governance is transparent and accountable

Governmentinformation should be readily available about how public services are run, who is in charge, how much they cost and whether they are meeting the standards and needs of the people. Good governance sets the standards of government behavior and performance for both politicians and officials



Good governance is free of corruption

Good governance ensures that the taxpayers money is spent wisely for the taxpayers as well as the users of public services. Government expenditures and performances shoould be judged against standards.



Good governance is free and fair

Special efforts should be made for those who speak minority languages or who have physical or learning difficulties and noone should be excluded from access to public services for reason of race, color, creed, gender or mental physical disability. Public servants should be recruited and promoted openly on merit. They should carry out decisions of the elected government of the day loyally and impartially



Good governance strives to increase standards

Good governance aims constantly to improve standards of public service and the people should be able to review in plain languae, the standards to be judged by



Good governance observes human rights

Good governance exists by people who respect the rule of law, enjoying freedom of association and expression. Good governance guarantees individual and group rights, preserves law and order, and protects disadvantaged groups. The judicial systems should be fre from political control, open to all groups in society, and provide an effective framework of remedies to redress injustice and human rights violations.

The reponse of African Americans in the USA has been instrumental in the abolishment of apartheid in South Africa and segregation in the United States. The Civil Rights Movement of the United States has impacted the peace and justice movements around the world and has served as a model for strategic planning initiatives. The movement has now shifted to supporting democratization initiatives in Africa as well as the ascenddance to full participation in global governance and Africa's participation in shaping the planet's future. The aNational Committee makes resources available to foster democratization as well as supports election campaigns through voter education and training programs.



The African American Future Society

The African American Future Society promotes African American culture. It provides access to ideas, talents and experience, through education, training, books, information, the English language, the arts, the sciences and technology.

The African American Future Society has established relationships throught its work in supporting visits to and from Africa. The Society, through its work, has an established network of contacts at senior levels in government and increasingly outside government with national NGO's, United Nations agencies and private philanthropist.

The African American Future Society is an independent nonpolitical organization which enables the society to play a role in bringing together public, private, government, NGO's, public and private sectors. The society is able to transfer experience from one country to another via the overseas network and the New York City headquarters. The society can monitor policy developments and key findings overseas and in the USA to disseminate this information through its network
