Feel The Past
Many of today's cards are being encased in plastic.
I say feel the past. As I am reluctant to encase an old card that
has not been identified fully. My old cards are not pristine so why
go wild, just enjoy a old card.
A baseball card JPG from a baseball card sellers
web page. Most likely part of a reprint set and not from '53.
And not sold with gum, a modern day BB card. Click on image
to
see original size, which is the same size.
A JPG of card from a card sellers web site.
A graded and sealed card from a 1980 set.
The player now has Major League's alltime Stolen Base record,
surpassing Ty Cobb, and now may also be Walk and Run leader plus
a chance a 3,000 hits. Time does go bye when you are active.
JPG scan of damaged card by collector that shows
gum damage. Is this gum damage found in late series cards and
due to late August humidity? Note outline of gum in
tare.
The tare goes across the hat, down to logo and across the glove.
I remember collecting this set and was so frustrated by not
finding
worthwhile cards; that when the last series came out I gave
up.
The last series issue was at season end and no one collected
them.
Click on image to see a very detailed image. This is a poor
quality
card of little value. A place holder, except for being in a
rare series.
UPDATE: October 12, 1998 Just discovered in Beckett #140, the
November 1996 issue, on page 11 an ad for All Sport PPF that shows this
card on the right side. There is a right corner overshoot noticable.
Also, the upper star box line is as wavy as the above picture shows.
The logo is covered, so no chance to see if the bottom line is missing.
The reprint set card had none of these identifiers.
JPG scan by collector that shows
rounded corners and gum damage to the card. Note border
line in upper left corner. The star box around autograph has
an
unusual feature not found on other cards. The top line goes
scarce
and shows yellow. The logo box has no bottom line and the name
yankees is blurry. The Morgan card has the blurry name, but
has a
line. Some yankee logo boxes are a darker yellow, this occurs
in
first and last series cards. Anyone able to verify these features
( a double print that may be different ) may send email to
casteffens@yahoo.com
- especially on the logo box line and the
top star line lack of black and the upper left corned over shoot.
Even with all these odd features, the card is solid and appears
as
a genuine original. The reverse has wear as if water droplets
had
removed some of the mint condition with little loss of readability.
All those oddities may identify a counterfeit card, although
it's
integrity appears as good as the rest of this type of card.
Take link below, the three signs of the second print can be seen.
Recent 2003 bidding and quizing around ebay found one seller of Mantle
1952 cards got scamed by a grader. He did a walk in delivery and never got
them back.
