
There is a basic framework of concepts and skills essential for effectively using technology tools and resources. These concepts and operational skills provide a foundation for use of technology to support learning throughout the curriculum. The goal of the technology program is designed to help students meet the following objectives:
1. To become proficient in keyboarding skills.
2. To be able to operate computer hardware and software independently.
3. To learn appropriate terminology related to technology in oral and written communications.
4. To demonstrate proficient file management skills associated with opening, closing, saving and deleting files.
5. To access information from various resources on the computer.
6. To learn how to respect the computer work of others.
Technology Goals Grades 5-8 COMMUNICATIONS
1. Students will communicate through application software.
Create written documents using word processing skills, writing process steps, and software programs. Use electronic spell check/thesaurus. Use computer graphics to enhance documents. Create spreadsheets to manage information and generate charts/graphs. Produce slide shows using Power Point to present information to a group. INFORMATION PROCESSING
Students will use technology to access, retrieve, evaluate and interpret visual/auditory information.
1. Students will access and retrieve electronic information. Use search strategies. Use electronic encyclopedias, almanacs, and catalogs. Use databases to search for information. 2. Students will use information to support learning in all content areas. PRODUCTIVITY
Students will use technology and its application to maximize productivity and effectiveness.
1. Students will use technology to enchance their productivity. Use software for drill and practice and to strengthen skill development. Use computer when necessary for computer assisted instruction. Develop strategies for problem solving and critical thinking. 2. Students will develop basic technology skills. Select and use technology appropriate to needs. Develop keyboarding skills. Operate scanners, printers, etc. Develop a technology vocabulary. Care for technology equipment and use it safely. Obey copyright laws and practice computer ethics.
