On My Own!

My Grandpa       I'm sad that I never met my grandpa because he died before I was born. My grandma said he was a lovely man. I know that his first name was Leslie. I know that he's in a better place now. I wish I could have met him.       I hope that I see him one day. My dad didn't spend a lot of time with him because he died when my dad was 10 years old. My uncle never met him, just like me. I wish he were still alive. I miss him a lot. Most of the kids in my class only have one grandpa too. Shannon Cohall         My best friends are Jeffery, Khadeem, and Carlos. We have things in common. For example, we're all boys, we're in third grade and we all like Pokemon. We have fun together. That's why we are friends!!! Joseph DeJesus   The Lost Dreidel       Once there was a beautiful dreidel that had Hebrew letters on it. A girl named Shasa found the lost dreidel. The dreidel shined like a diamond in the sky. Shasa decided to find the owner of the beautiful dreidel. She decided to make 100 copies of the dreidel and post them around her neighborhood. She put her phone number on them.       Shasa waited and waited for her phone to ring, but it didn't until the next morning. The person on the phone said her name was Tatiana. She said she lost her dreidel.Tatiana thanked Shasa for finding her dreidel. Jeanne Hored   A Winter Poem A time to curl under covers. A time to make snowballs, To drink hot cocoa or make snowmen, But most of all, to be home. Carlos Kerr         I love my grandfather, but I don't get to see him a lot because he lives far away. My mom said that we are going to see him this summer. The last time that I went to see him was when I was 3 years old. I don't remember what he looks like, but I know that he is blind in both eyes. He lives in a house with my aunt.       I will get to go to Florida this summer so I can see him, my cousins, my aunt and my uncle. If I could see anywhere in the world I would see Trinidad because it is so beautiful! Rachel Leeke         Last September I was so scared because I was starting a new school, P.S. 279. When I first got to school I didn't know where to go so I asked one of the children that I didn't know. When I saw my teacher I began to feel happy. When I started to come to school more I found out that she was really nice. Danielle Pearson         I remember when my grandpa died last year. After school he picked me up and took my to the barber. I got my haircut and he took me home. When he was going home when a car hit him. He was in the hospital for weeks. I stayed at my friend's house. Then one night I was with my dad's cousin and the phone rang. My brothers and I found out he was dead. C.J Tiamfook         I remember when my dad wouldn't let me go to the laundry with him. My mother said, "Don't worry, what's more fun? Going to the laundry and folding clothes or going shopping?" Then my mother and I were on our way to Avenue J. We were talking and laughing. It was a mother daughter thing. When I went home I told my sister what we did and she was jealous. Simone Miller   The Space Creature       Once upon a time there lived a space monster. When he was flying in his ship he accidentally opened the door. He fell out and landed on the planet earth. On his way he crashed into a space shuttle. The shuttle was driven by his friend, who took him back to his own planet. Jeffrey Wu   My Mom My mom's name is Sophia She's very smart and pretty. Her mom's name is Violet. She looks a lot like her mother. I look a lot like her! Her birthday is March 15th. Her favorite color is red. Her favorite kind of ice cream is Cookies n'Cream. Her father's name is Barry. Her husband's name is Kirkpatrick. Now, her last name is Cohall. Sophia was married on July 31st. Shannon Cohall   My mom is the best. On days I'm sad she makes me feel better, My mom is great! Dad's are the best! A dad is very special. Dad's are great! Dara Jones   My wonderful mom, She cares for me and loves me. If I make her happy she will be in a good mood. She lets me help with everything. I love my mom very much, From the bottom of my heart and the world beyond! Jeanne Hored   The Best Parents       The best parents are my parents. They are nice to me. If I ask them for something they will give it to me. They always let me go outside. Every summer we go down to Florida to see my aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
