TheSpud here... I think this seems innocent enough. Please ask me anything. I'm not too intellectual but am proficient in music, movies and useless information...and I love mind stretching questions. Go on! Ask me anything....

Jeni  - ok here goes a useless information question: Why is it that when you pet a cat all the way down the back and then go down the tail as they are walking by, do they turn around and come back for more? I can pet my cat on his back to the base of his tail and stop there and he keeps on going...... but if I pet down his tail, he comes back. What is with that?

Great question. I have a cat who does the same thing. Luckily for you, I know the answer! The thing with cats is that they rely a lot on body language. If a cat walks into a room and rubs against you, it is their way of saying "hello!" So, if you go up to a cat and pat it in that way, you are basically saying hello to it so it rubs back against you to "return the greeting". If you just rub its back and don't go down to the tail, I assume that doesn't mean the same thing. I guess to the cat, you are the equivilent to a coffee table or a chair and aren't really saying anything. Correct me if I'm wrong!!

P.S. More cat useless information I've picked up over the years:
1)a cat's urine glows under blue light.
2)a cat only miows because it is mimicking humans. It will see people communicate through speech so when it miows and gets something, it learns that it can get things by miowing and thinks we can understand it. I was blown away when I heard this because our cat is so noisy when it wants something!!

heyteach - You say proficient in music: so do you sing or play any instruments? Compose anything? Or are you like me and you love music, but you can't really make music? LOL.

The latter, I'm afraid. I learnt the piano when I was young but didn't keep it up so I know a bit of theory but that's it.

However, I'm one of those people who really remembers songs, artists, lyrics and musical useless information. I announce on a community radio station where I live and my mates are always quizzing me on my music general knowledge (I haven't failed yet!)

obbop - Red or Russet? Are Idaho potatoes really superior to ones grown elsewhere? How many pieces do you slice a whole spud into when you boil it to make mashed taters?

My favourite potato is the Red Pontiac, which as well as being full flavoured, have a pinkish blush. Unfortunately, being from Australia, I am yet to sample Idaho potatoes, but I have been told great things...
FYI: I cut a potato into 12 pieces before boiling. Mashed potatoes...yummy!!

Cyndy - I LOVE Potatoes! I'd like a new cassarole recipe to try out. Can you help?

Being a 19yo student, I'm not a brilliant chef but my mum has shown me great casseroles if you can't be bothered cooking but want to eat well. Simple: get some chuck steak (or whatever meat you want to use) and cut it up. Then raid your fridge and pantry. Use ANYTHING. Potatoes, peas, mushrooms, corn, butternut, pumpkin (even though I don't really like the last two), beans, carrots, onion, squash... have fun!! Add a beef gravy or maybe mushroom or tomato soup- whatever you feel like- then put it in the oven on 200degrees for an hour. Dinner!!

P.S. My mum tells me this called Irish Stew (also known as Potato Ash).

prncss - What's your biggest weakness?

I love all these questions!! - I guess my biggest weakness is that I'm too self- conscious but then again as a defense mechanism I act like a nutter sometimes. I think my biggest downfall and the root of all my weaknesses is simply that I think about what others think of me too much and, being a pessimist, think they are thinking the worst. Isn't post-adolescent angst fun??
