Through The Years...

Welcome to the our webpage.......

Nick & Dorothy

When we arrived in Canada in 1997, we stayed in an apartment located in central Mississauga and very close to the Square One commercial centre. Our unit is in the 23rd floor so that we could see the panoramic beauty of Mississauga & Toronto. But our rent is increasing every year henceforth we decided to purchase a house of our own. We moved to this house in the Meadowvale area (northwest of Mississauga) on May 29, 1999.

Our home and mailing address is:

My name is Nick Villar, a Communications Engineer who settled here in Canada in 1997 with my wife and two sons. We are now living in Mississauga, Ontario, which is about forty five minutes drive from Toronto. I am currently working with Omron, a Japanese firm producing automotive electronic components with plant located in Oakville, Ontario.

I grew up in Cabanatuan City, N.E., Philippines, where I spent my grade schools at the West Central and attended Nueva Ecija High School, graduating in April of 1973. I then enrolled at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines and obtained my B.S. in Electronics & Communication Engineering in 1978.

I worked as Process Engineer at Semiconductor Devices (Phil) Inc. and then at Philips which both manufacture hybrid microcircuits and electronic components. As the economic climate was getting worse in the Philippines in 1984, I went to the Middle East joining thousands of overseas workers. I worked as a Data Communications Technical Support Specialist at the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and as a Help Desk Analyst at the General Petroleum and Mineral Organization (Petromin). Then I was hired as Network Controller at the Saudi French Bank, one of the major commercial banks with a sophisticated data and telecommunications network in the Saudi capital city of Riyadh.

I got bored after spending the twelve prime years of my life in that weird place. Maybe, staying in KSA that long was the greatest mistake I've ever made. Oooops. It's not really that bad, I was getting a financial package which is equal if not above the international standard, at the very least. I was also sent for training in the U.S. and in Europe as well as those various in-house seminars conducted British Telecom, AT&T-Paradyne, Network General (Telindus) and Proteon routers.

As my family was with me there in Saudi, we concluded that their culture, traditions and moral values were totally different from ours and were never in our dreams for our kids. We wouldn't like that our children blame us in the future that we educated them there. And so we decided and planned to apply for permanent residency in Canada. And that is exactly what we did! So here we are.... Why Canada? Well, for the sixth consecutive year, Canada is the best place to live (based on the UN survey) and we really feel that it's true. We are now enjoying a normal family life, a kind of life which we were deprived of for quite some time. And I just considered my stint in M.E. as one of my unpleasant dreams .
