Thanks Jean Luc Piccard from all of us that you will post the name-make and manufacturer of the new metal detector you have seen.

Thanks Hardnose for giving Jean Luc the website on metal detectors, but I am well aware of the detectors that are on the market here in the USA after using them for about 30 years now.

Jean Luc, I looked at the web site, and I didn't see any superior detectors to what most of you are using now.

Don't be fooled by high prices, and that they are over seas here in the USA. Everything stated here in, are my own personal views, after trying many of the units for sale in the USA.

The radar units are worthless for the average person. Furthermore, carelessness means loosing a foot, leg, etc... Most people can't understand the software, therefore they miss what is in the ground. One example was, a salesman coming out on the property and demonstrating his underground radar system, unknown to him, but know to others, was that there was a metal culvert under the property he was demonstrating on. Yes, he found the metal object he buried, but he missed the half meter diameter metal culvert that was five meters long, that he went over several times with and was witnessed by many people. The test was in Tennessee, USA. He didn't sale any units that day.

The best handheld metal detector sold here in the USA is the Whites 6000Di/Pro with the 9 1/2" inch loop, and the 15" loop for great depth.

Two box metal detectors are basically worthless, I have two; a Garrett with the Ground Hog attachment, and a Fisher Gemini III. I buried a gallon metal can half a meter deep, the Garrett could not detect it, even laying the instrument on the ground. The Fisher Gemini III will just barely detect a quart jar full of money at 1 meter in an air test, and that is only if you are exactly over it and know where it is.

The Whites 6000Di/Pro with the 15" coil will detect the quart jar of coins at a depth of almost 2 meters. At 1 meter in depth, it starts detecting the jar at about a meter in all directions. This metal detector is very reasonable, and far excels other detectors in the USA for coins, treasure and caches.

A Fisher FX3 Magnetometer is exellent for detecting iron, its very sensitive and is very cheap. You can detect a 2 meter tall iron post at 3-4 meters away. Remember, MAGNETOMETERS ONLY DETECT IRON! They will not detect other metals.

The so called long range metal detectors sold here in the USA are the biggest rip off there is going. The most expensive ones cost around $300 to produce; yet they will sell for $3,000 to $20,000 in price. You can go out and buy a kit for $10 that will produce the same results. The results are, "you were a FOOL to purchase such a thing", because all of them use dowsing. None, of the people that I know whom live here in the USA have ever found anything with these units that they were looking for. They have piles of trash, though!

Furthermore, there have never been any articles in magazines by anyone other than the manufacturers and sales people giving praise to these units. A fool and his money soon departs!

If you don't believe me that these units are worthless, take a salesperson out to a grave yard and ask them to use the machine there, because there is a lot of gold buried in the mouths of many people, not including gold rings and other jewelry. They won't find anything, and the gold will be everywhere around them. Go out there and bury some gold nuggets or coins by headstones, make sure you remember where they are, because the person doing the demonstration won't find any of them, ESPECIALLY IF YOU DON'T TELL THEM WHERE THEY ARE OR LEAD HIM OVER TO THE AREA. HE WILL ONLY FIND THE GOLD OR SILVER YOU OR HE HIDES THEN AND THERE!

The sellers of these units are going to be sued for fraud in a class action suit by a lot of people one of these days, but right now they are to ashamed to go out and tell anybody they were stupid enough to buy one.

I haven't tried out one of your Minelab metal detectors, but because a few of my friends have one, and they state they are better, and because I know they have sold metal detectors for 20 or 30 some years I believe they are currently the best metal detectors on the market for gold.

I have used the Fisher Gold Bugs, and they are okay, but the signal is poor, and hot rocks are killers on your nerves using these metal detectors.

I haven't tried the new White's, but I expect it is very good, since they have good signals, and the visual indicators are always very good.

I haven't seen any metal detectors like I intend to sell in the future. IF you want an honest opinion about some type of metal detector here in the USA, let me know, an I'll tell you what I know about it.

As to the new metal detector you spotted in Europe, I am very anxious to see it and the manufacturers name. I believe the manufacturer, must be in with 3M, because several years ago, here in the USA 3M stated they had developed a chip for a metal detector, in which they stated anyone could detect down almost 2 meters to locate metals and let the operator see it visually on a screen. I am sure you have seen one of someones prototypes using the 3M chip.

I enjoy reading everything on the forum, when I get a chance. Sometines, it's a long time between readings.

Happy Metal Detecting to you Jean Luc and Hardnose

! Best Wishes DaveUSA
