Magic Tricks

One by one they disappear. Where'd they go? I was just talking to them. We were having a very intellectual conversation, one of Life and Death. I wouldn't have such a topic by myself. So where'd they go? And why am I the only one who's seemed to notice?

She felt it...Death's Touch...in her chest. She ignored it. After all she was only 19. It was probably heart burn. Besides, it's not like the pain happened all the time. Just occasionally, then more so. It was getting bad now. She still refused to go. What use would Death have for her?

.....and then she disappeared.

He was the quarter back at Columbine High School. Popular and all that. Wasn't bad looking, and had gotten a full blown scholarship to his preferred college. He went to school one day, class was going to the library. He sat there reading the boring stuff when two kids bashed into the room guns held high. What use would Death have for him?

She was in a car with a bunch of her friends. Having fun. They were all going to a church retreat. They couldn't wait to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The long day and the drive made her tired. And eventually she drifted asleep. Soon after the driver swirved to avoid hitting something, and the car rolled. What use would Death have for her?

.....and then she disappeared.

So where'd they go? Why doesn't anyone seem to miss them? It's all a magic trick I guess. All they did was disappear. No one else seems to be affected by it. So I guess I shouldn't either. Like the movies I guess. They'll show up around the end, or jump outta some corner to scare you. Yeah, it's just a trick. Like magic.
