Comments:

Sharon Van Etten has a fantastically present and beautiful voice, and I have followed her closely since her very fine ”Are We There” album from 2014. This, her sixth album, is supposed to be influenced by the corona epidemic and what this meant for people's daily lives. The lyrics are generally quite introverted, and some of the music will probably require several listens before it really catches on.

If you have the deluxe edition, you will have no less than six singles taken from the album; unfortunately I was not aware of this when I bought the regular version, which only contains the singles "Mistakes" and "Headspace". "Mistakes" in particular is a personal favourite; it is one of the heavier and melodically catchy tracks. The other single "Headspace" is slow and dramatic - a bit repetitive – not an obvious choice for a single.

Other favorites are the opening number "Darkness Fades", which after an acoustic start develops excitingly and dramatically. Dramatic is also "Anything", which is also a favourite. "I'll Try" is also strong; another of the catchier tracks. You may feel throughout the album invited into a personal universe, and that none of the songs are included "for no good reason".
