Comments:

"Tramp" from 2012 was Sharon van Etten's third professional album release and the first on the Jagjaguwar label. The album was the beginning of the breakthrough that really came with the next album "Are We There" in 2014.

It is not an immediately accessible album and there is an overall introverted mood about it. There are only a few truly melodic tracks, but despite this, a total of five tracks were issued as singles.

Among these, the rocking upbeat "Serpents" is really nice, a somewhat desperate and a highlight. Another favorite is "We are Fine", with acoustic guitar and a country feel. "Leonard" is a special tune; which might make you think of Thom Yorke; a song that really wins with more listens. "Give Out" is a quiet track; melodically not very exciting. "Magic Chords" is a bit mysterious; perhaps especially because of the much talked about video made for the track with naked lifeless people and van Etten in old Puritan garb. The short opening number "Warsaw" is also a number that makes an impression. Raw and with special beat and harmonies.

Overall a very atmospheric album, that may lack a couple of really memorable songs to become a classic
