Comments:
This 1958 album was the third from Gene and his Blue Caps.
The production is more polished and there’s not much of the wildness that originally made Vincent so great. The material is uneven and a mixture of rockers and ballads.
“Brand New Beat” is a solid rocking opener. Vincent was always fascinated with decades-old classic ballads and some his recordings of those are really great. On this album I think “You Belong to Me” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” are the ballads that stand out.
None of the rockers really stand out – there are no “new” “Be Bop a Lula”, “Wild Cat” or “Race With the Devil”
Gene’s own pop-song “Time Will Bring You Everything” is quite good.
