Comments:

I'm usually not a fan of Christmas albums, and this one from Aimee Mann does not really change much at this. This does not mean that "One More Drifter in the Snow" is unexciting and very predictable. Several of these songs have been covered on many Christmas albums, but in more cases, Mann gives them a new touch; a new and different life. Eg. I think her version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" is wonderfully different.

The two "new" songs - Mann's own "Calling on Mary" and Micheal Penns "Christmastime" are obvious highlights, although I think the otherwise fine "Calling on Mary", is weakened a little by the many repetitions of "Merry Christmas" . Perhaps the biggest positive surprise on the album is the old song from 1940's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" which Mann gives a completely new and different twist, so it almost sounds like a Mann original song.

If you like Christmas CDs "One More Drifter in the Snow" is a good choice – if you are an Aimee Mann fan "One More Drifter in the Snow" is a necessary choice, and you'll be sure to enjoy several of the songs of the CD. Just don’t compare it to a ”regular” album.
