Comments:

This may for many listeners probably be a long and a somewhat unmanageable album. As is the case with most double albums, this 1883 Cure album is not easy to quickly form a proper impression of. There are several fairly long tracks (5 minutes+) and also some that just feel long.

The fact that the album was a fairly big commercial success, may be surprising, as several tracks are not very easily accessible, and some may appear long and somewhat monotonous. The overall tone is, as on most Cure albums, quite dark.

Four singles were taken from the album and among these at least two are among my Cure favourites. "Catch" is both melodic, subdued and with a nice build-up. "Just Like Heaven" almost sounds like the early Cure; a lovely light and melodic number. "Hot Hot Hot" and "Why Can't I Be You" also came out as singles, and of these two, only the upbeat "Why Can't I Be You" with lots of horns makes a small impression. Among the other tracks, "How Beautiful You Are", with acoustic guitars and a good drive, is a favourite, but overalI I feel that there weren't really enough good tracks to make a full double album.
