Comments:

"Smile" from 2000 was the sixth album from The Jayhawks. The album was produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin, known from his work with, among others, Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and others.

The music, almost entirely written by singer/guitarist Gary Louris, is catchy pop rock which at times may remind you of R.E.M., Crowded House or British “Ocean Color Scene”.

Karen Grotberg in the line-up is a great asset, not least via her fine harmony vocals on many of the tracks. Unfortunately, she left the group shortly after the release of this album and only managed to appear on three albums.

The songs are generally very nice and catchy, and many could be highlighted. Besides the great single "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me", I would like to mention “A Break In The Clouds“, "Broken Harpoon", "Mr. Wilson" and the relatively heavy "Baby, Baby, Baby", which may bring to mind R.E.M.'s "Monster" album.
