Comments:

Bruce Springsteen's "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J." from 1973 is his debut studio album.I find it very exciting to re-listen to this early album, from before his heavy 1980s stadiumrock sound. In terms of genre, the album is very varied, and lyrically Springsteen appears as a complete virtuoso

Two of the songs on the album, "Blinded By the Light" and "Spirits in the Night", were covered by Manfred Mann's Earth Band with great success later in the 1970s. In particular, "Blinded By the Light" became a huge success, and this has hardly hurt Springsteen on his way towards the absolute rock elite.

Springsteen's own versions are less heavy and I particularly like "Blinded By the Light", where he sounds a very much like the early Elvis Costello. In the case of "Blinded By the Light" I probably I like the cover version best. Another highlight of the album is "Growin 'Up", a melodic upbeat and very catchy song. An overall fine debut album where Springsteen moves between the genres folk, country, blues and rock.
