Comments:

Exciting Iveys compilation. This collection of Iveys demos is very enjoyable and actually contains surprisingly many fine numbers, in arrangements that is felt close to finished and where the level of musical ambition seems high.

A number of tracks have been out before; several of them on the sampler "94 Baker Street" and others on the CDs released together with Badfinger biography "Without You: The Tragic Story of Badfinger". Others have never been released in these versions before and some songs are brand “new / unknown”. The sound is in most cases surprisingly good, and compared to previous releases improved. All group members have contributed to the songwriting and although you usually think of Tom Evans and especially Pete Ham as Badfinger / Ivey's songwriters, there are fine contributions from both Ron Griffiths and Mike Gibbins.

"Maybe Tomorrow", written by Tom Evans, was released on single and it is here in an almost finished version that has not been released before; nice sound and a little rawer than the familiar version. "I'm Too Shy" is a Ham / Evans song. There is a lot of psychedelia feel in the song, which is the same recording that was released on the "94 Baker Street" sampler in 2003 on RPM. New mastering has improved the sound.

"She Came Out of the Cold" is also a Ham / Evans number taken from "94 Baker Street". A funny ghost story in catchy pop arrangement. "Man Without a Heart" written by Pete Ham is a previously unreleased version; the number is found on a bootleg called "Someday We'll be Known", where the sound is not very good. Here the song sounds great and it is a nice ballad that with falsetto singing could have suited a group like The Rocking Berries. "Taxi" is a Pete Ham pop-rocker who was also to be found on the CD contained in the second edition of the Badfinger biography. Here, too, the sound is improved. "I Believe in You Girl" has not been released before: it is a Motown inspired song written by Ron Griffiths and with a rather heavy guitar break from Pete Ham. "I Should Have Loved You" is also previously unreleased. It's psychedelic pop written by Tom Evans. "Words With You" is again a Ron Griffiths number. This time it's a grandiose ballad; a bit like "Let it be Me" (Everly Brothers and others).

"Another Day" is an unknown Pete Ham song (found on the previously mentioned bootleg). The song is most often in Ham's case melodic and well composed in pop-pschedelia style. "Apron Strings" is a fairly simple rocker written by Tom Evans; the sound here is a little raw, and with a little annoying falsetto screaming. "Tube Train" is Ron Griffith's strongest contribution. It's a number could have been The Who in their psychedelic period. The version was also released earlier on "94 Baker Street". Drummer Mike Gibbins is the man behind "Change Your Mind" and "She Mystifies Me". Both tracks are surprisingly complex and testify to musical ingenuity.

"I've Been There Once Before" is the CD's longest track. It is an ambitious Pete Ham composition with many different sound effects that underpins the somewhat supernatural lyrics. Again a number known from "94 Baker Street". "The Clown of the Party" is the same version of a Pete Ham song that was included on the biography CD. A melodic ballad; perhaps with autobiographical text. "Midnight Sun" is a Pete Ham rocker; one of the strongest songs on the Badfinger album "Magic Christian Music". Here we hear the song in an early version with Ron Griffiths as lead singer. "Sad Tomorrow" is a previously unreleased Tom Evans song. Acoustic 12 strings harmonizing with himself.

"John Forgot to Sing" is a Pete Ham song written in gospel style that could also be reminiscent of an old American anthem. Tom Evans contributes on harmony vocals. The number has been posted on You Tube several years ago. "Carry on Till Tomorrow" is an acoustic version of the song that was later released on "Magic Christian Music". The same recording can be found on the first edition of the biography CD, which, however, fades out somewhat earlier than this almost 6 minute long version. "Without You" is a compilation of two unfinished songs written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans respectively and which would later become a world pop classic.
