 A graphic or logo perhaps
| Photo Caption
Body text describing your community, highlighting important things or active issues goes on this side. Your links to any sections you have on your site go on the left. You can name the sections and links as shown on your nav bar, or hide the pages and use this page for navigating your site instead.
You can add more text and graphics in this section. You can even wrap text around graphics as I've done here. Once the graphic has been added to the page, select it and click on the right or left alignment tool on the MSN Editor Toolbar to align it so the text wraps around it. Left aligning the graphic causes text to wrap on the right side. Right aligning the graphic causes text to wrap on the left.
This table has been set up at 100% width, with the links column at 20% of the width and the wide column at 80%. You can edit the html code to change the widths.
You can add more tables inside this wider column to further organize the text and graphics you put in here.

This table has the cell at the top at 100% width and it spans the 3 columns below. The column at left for links has each cell set to 15% width, and the one at right is 20%. This center column is left unspecified so it will automatically adjust if you change the widths of the outer columns. You can change the widths of the outer columns and cells by editing the html code.
This is a good layout if you want to showcase something in the right hand column that will change regularly. Note that if you put more in this center column, the cells at left for your links will also enlarge. You can remove all but one of the table row <tr> and </tr> code from that column and insert a one-column, multi row table in there instead. |

Your Title Here
|
|
There are many nested tables in this example copied by TerrorismAttack from one of MSN's page layouts. I have removed some of the tables, the MSN style formatting, and simplified it. (When MSN does it's next upgrade, the formatting will be gone, and your page will be a mess...)
The outer table is set to 100% width - it is a one-celled table. There are two tables inside of it:
-
The Links and Your Title Here section across the top are in a table set to 100% width. The Links themselves are in a 1-row, 10 column table set to 100% width, and each cell at 10%.
-
The center content, and additional links and copyright sections below, are in another table.
The columns for the content in the center hold additional tables, so the formatting in one won't get badly messed up if you change the other. This side has the cell at 60% width. The tables inside this cell are set to 100% width.
The title and links bar across the bottom are set to 100% width. |

Note this cell and the one above are in their own tables set to 100% width. They are within a cell set to 40% width.
The space below this section is the rest of the cell that this table is in. When the border width for this table is set to zero, the space will not be obvious. ...Or you can just fill it up by putting more in this table. | |

More body text and page components...
There are 3 main tables in this page. The outermost table with the wide border, the inner one with the narrow purple border, and the innermost one which has the cells in it to hold the page content. All tables are set to 100% width.
In this innermost table, the link column at left is set to 20% width. This wider column is set to 80%. The title cell at top of this table, and links cell at bottom, are set to 100% width and span both columns. You can safely set the borders to this innermost table to zero, or change the border width or cell padding (set to 2 for this example) without affecting anything else.
Note that the links are in a table of their own - you can use graphic buttons or text or whatever you like in the cells of the table.
Cell Padding for the outermost table has been set to 50 pixels. Border width is 10 pixels.
The Cell Padding for the middle table has been set to 8 pixels so you will have the narrow border some distance away from the innermost table. You can change this without affecting the innermost table.
There is a 4-column, 1-row table holding the links below. The table and cell widths for that table have not been specified, so you can add as many as you need and it will self adjust.
Each link is in it's own 1-celled table within a cell of the outer table, and the width has been set to 100%. This way you can change the color for each link without editing the html code. If you don't want the inner 1-celled tables, simply select them and delete. |
