Fan Stuff (i.e., just about everything)

Satellite News

Here's one of the best, most informative MST sites out there. Run by the BBI-approved "Special Guest Interns" Sampo and Erhardht4, it should be a regular sight to newbie and experienced MSTies. It's almost guaranteed to have all the info you want about the show, and probably a little more. Detailed perusal recommended for maximum enjoyment.

The official MST site at Sci Fi's Dominion. Several neat pictures and a RA of When I Held Your Brain In My Arms as well as amusing episode guide entries for the Sci Fi Channel episodes and commentaries penned by the Brains themselves.

Brain Scan
I thought this would be of import to any mstie--it's Satellite News' page for keeping track of what the Brains are up to now.

Home Game Industries

The home site of a collection of weird and wonderful, vaguely MST-related things. Well-known and named for the regular MiStings organized and archived here.

MST in the Oxford English Dictionary?
(link last checked 12/12/00)

The OED is looking for new words, and Homegame Industries would like to get "riff" in the books for the ages. Visit this site to see how you can help the campaign.

Cheep Trades
(link last checked 12/12/00)

Far more than just trading (though, to me, the MST and Zappa videos are very notable), this offers eminently neat Zappa/MST connections, from a BBI memo to reference list to Zappa songs trancribed, as well as good pictures and all-around admirable fandom.

The MSTed Movie Gallery. . .and more

Jamie Plummer's site with posters etc. from all the MSTed movies, plus several MST-related features that earn my honorific title of "neat."

Sloe Gin Circus speaks for itself: "Welcome to the guide to the show of shows, Mystery Science Theater 3000! It features an illustrated skit archive, details for every episode, thousands of sound clips, graphics, and quotes, and an organized structure. Brewed 100% Pure for the serious fan."

MST3K: The Project
I'll let the site speak for itself: "MST3K:The Project is new e-show, for fans of MST3K to continue the fun of MST3K, in a organized show setting. Cast space is limited, but we will be accepting an indefinite number of writers, graphics workers, and sound people. We will be 'MiSTing' media of all sorts, in text form, but will be including graphics and sound. Join the team today!"

Zappa References on MST3K
A comprehensive list of... well... Zappa references on MST3K.

Rhino
Rhino asked for suggestions about MST on DVD. Now they're putting together a site to answer these, hopefully. You can also get to other Rhino info about their MST videos from here.

Fan MiSTings
The page to see to find out about the circulating home MiSTings of Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier and Highlander II: The Quickening.

HOMEGAME INDUSTRIES: PROP GALLERY
Another cool thing from Homegame Industries--pictures of fans who bought props from the auction posing with their loot, accompanied by commentary from Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter.

Wolverine: MST3k -> VideoCD project
This fan is starting to transfer his tapes to VideoCD, trying to get the ball rolling on some MST disc trading. Have a look at it, won't you?

The MST3K - VideoCD Trading Page
The trading page of a mstie who takes VHS in exchange for VCDs of your episodes, which he'll make for you.

The Mystery Science Theater 3001 Webpage!
Home to an extensive fan fiction series.

Sailor Venus' MST3K Shrine!!
This MST site is desgined with anime hostesses. Check out the fan fiction archives, where there is a long series, which could have been written better but is at least entertaining (yes, suddenly I'm a literary critic), as well as a couple general fan fics.

The AADGKA Village
Wow! A wonder I never noticed this site before. AADGKA! Links is now AADGKA! Village, with just tons and tons of great stuff you should see (and the links are still there). The game in the "Arcade" amused me muchly.

The Mystery Science Theater
A little site where you can download the Torgo screensaver or see a picture of an MST appearance in a comic strip.

Satellite News Network
A very clever save-MST site, with both amusing and pertinent info conveyed in the style of CNN or MSNBC news coverage. Includes multitudinous updates, an archive of articles about the cancellation, and addresses, as well as a Doomsday Clock.

SATELLITE NEWS.
I just happened to stumble across this. It appears to be an issue of the old Satellite News which for some reason is still extant. It's from some time a little before Season 8 and consists of several articles penned by the Brains.

MSTie Campaigns...
Several and varied MST buttons for webpages, like "Free Speech in Movie Theaters" and "MST3K Now!"

Home of THE JOEL TRAIN
An ultra-obsessive e-mail zine by and for Joelgirls, featuring extravagant Joel adulation. It consists of two back issues available for perusal here.

The Eye Site
Tons and tons of .wavs from Season One.

Mike Harney: MST3K Rescued by Sci-Fi Channel
A major page on the first campaign to save the show. There's a whole gamut of wonderfully neat things here, including mentions of the first cancellation, words from Roger Ebert and Jack Perkins, a pic of the first ad placed in Variety, and TSKWM's hilarious response to a random troll.

ConventioCon Pages
A collection of sites with pictures, accounts of, and info about the ConventioCons. Brought to you courtesy of The Mining C--er, I mean, About.com.

3000: A Space Oddity
A wonderful and well-written MST fanfic (yes, you read correctly, I said "a well-written fanfic") by Mike Barklage that's *not* a MiSTing--it's a story about Joel's adventures after he escapes the SOL.

What a nifty logo!
This site is truly a visual treat. It's home to many, many cool original pictures of MST characters. The proprietor created all the images herself, including the two pics I borrowed for links to her site. You can also send MST postcards. A must-see!

The Wit and Wisdom of RATMM
Big Rob, The Midnight Rambler's archive of some of the fun wackiness at ratmm, i.e. rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc, the main newsgroup for MST. If you don't frequent ratmm, let me tell you that it's really, truly funny stuff. Enjoy!

Does Humor Belong in USENET?
An archive of amusing posts from alt.fan.frank-zappa, rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc, rec.music.progressive, and alt.music.mike-keneally.

You Might Be A MiSTie If...
Bill Livingston's archive of a cascade on ratmm listing the signs of mstie affliction. :)

Web Site Number 9
The definitive archive of MUT3K, fan MiSTings posted to Usenet. Tons and tons of cool stuff, you're bound to find something (more likely many things) that makes you laugh.

Show History
Official MiSties [g] Chris Cornell and Brian Henry have penned an "almost but not quite complete" history of the show. There's plenty of good information and it's all very interesting. Highly recommended for any mstie, so the new can learn and the old and jaded can sit back in their rocking chair and go on about how in *their* day show histories had to be etched out word by painful word on stone tablets and... Oh, I seem to have gotten off on a tangent. Sorry. Anyway, it's really cool. And stuff.

MiSTie Test
A fun test of your mstie-ness by Pat Gomes. Alternate titles: "'Creepy MiSTie Quiz' - or - 'Should I expand my horizons?'"

"MST3K in 3D - A Stereogram"
This is a magic eye picture. I used to be able to make out these things but this one gleefully evaded me. Amanda McSwiggin kindly informed me that it's a picture of the famous shadowramma. I found it at the same site as the link to the Dragon*Con thing, this site, and I don't know who made it.

Trace Beaulieu Tribute
A page with lots of info about Trace at Agent J's Workshop.

The MST3k Fiction Page
A cool collection of MST fan-fiction. Not MiSTings, actual fan-fiction, ranging from cross-overs to series to brief appearances of MST characters in fiction for other shows. They vary in quality, but almost all of them are extremely interesting.

The MST3K Catch Phrase Catalog
A list of... well I think it's pretty apparent, don't you? Rather extensive, with references included where appropriate.

MST3K Drinking Game
Another self-explanatory title. This resides at the Web Site of Love.

In fact . . .
Just check out this list of links to MST game sites at the Mining Co.'s MST page. They're probably all of interest.

From the hallowed Book of Joel
A fun reading from the Book of Joel at PepperMST's site which is devoted to the Creator (and seems somewhat outdated).

Joel Hodgson Stalker Site! S'fun!
This site was recently revamped and it better than ever. It now boasts another essay about an encounter with Joel's stand-up show, an extensive archive of articles about Joel and MST, a message forum, and, of course, there's still those wonderful original drawings of Mr. Hodgson.

ALIVE! an Experiment

Agent J's account of attending the July 10/11, 1992 live show at the Uptown Theatre in Minneapolis. (Ah, to have been a mstie back then... to have been old enough to comprehend the show back then, for that matter!)

Those . . . other links sites . . .

Look through other collections of MST sites.

Interviews
A few of these are not actually interviews, but they contain extensive words from the Brains and Q&A, so I put them in this category.

Hailing: Mike Nelson!
An interview with Mike, inconveniently lacking any transcript, on Zealot Sci-Fi.

20 Questions Only Joel Hodgson Can Answer About MST3K
What more do you need to know about it? Oh, this was a feature of Satellite News. Now go read it!

AgentJ's Transcripts
A collection of, let's see... 12 interviews and things interview-ish in nature at AgentJ's lovely site. Whee!

EW Online Interview with Mike & Kevin
This is a transcript I made of a RA interview with Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy from April 1998. Why? Because I had too much time on my hands. There's a lot of really good info about what they thought about making the movie, and, as should be apparent by now, Mike and Kevin are really funny. You can listen to the interview here.

Talkspot - The Karen Kay Show
Joel did a RA radio interview! Check out 3/26/99. I think his part in the broadcast is during the last half or so. (Oh, a nitpick re: what is said about the Umbilicus: an escape attempt *was* tried and it failed. You'll see what I mean if you listen to it.)

"History Science Theater"
Joel, Trace, and Josh did an interview with eon magazine! Scroll down to History Science Theater and dig in. Warning: the interviewer apparently had some beefs about the later incarnation of the show.

The Onion's A.V. Club | April 21, 1999
An interview with Joel.

Exoticon
Exoticon was a mstie and otherwise fringe gathering in New Orleans in November (IIRC) 1998, set up by ratmmer Big Rob, The Midnight Rambler. Among the guests appearing--the hilarious Michael J. Nelson and Kevin Wagner Murphy! This is a painstakingly created transcript of their appearance, offered for mstie enjoyment by ratmmer Bob "Bice" Eichler, who deserves a big kiss for this effort. There's .wavs too! Go and enjoy! Oh, and by the way, I have a tape of this now.

Weekend With: Joel Hodgson
An interview with Joel in a Twin Cities newspaper.

Meet Trace Beaulieu
Pictures from an autograph session and funny and informative Q&A with Trace at Golden Apple Comics' web site.

Mike Nelson Interview
An amusing, interesting interview conducted and provided on the Web by Brian Bull and aired 12/16/96 on Minnesota Public Radio. *Sadly, this page has disappeared. To clarify things, it used to be at http://www.visi.com/~bull//mnelsiv.htm. If anyone archived the interview or has any information about this page, please e-mail me.*

Onion A.V. Club Interview with Mike.
Without taking the time to peruse it since I did the first time I saw it (hey, even a web author has to have some time offline), the most specific date I can place on this is 1999.

Oregon Voice Interview With Mike
A good interview April of 1998.

Museum of Television and Radio
A transcript at Agent J's site of the 1995 interview with Jim, Trace, Kevin, and Mike.

BBI/MST Appearances Elsewhere
On web sites, in the media, etc.

Gateway Con
July 14-16, 2000, Gateway Science Fiction & Media Convention 2 took place in St. Louis, at the H"enry VIII Hotel. Among the guests--Terry Pratchett, Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, and surprise guest Mary Jo Pehl. Right now this is a page with some links to other sites on the con. Sooner or later I'll scan and put up what few of my pictures from it are worth displaying.

And by the way, it was really cool.

The Big G
The official site for Joel and his brother Jim's company Visual Story Tool and Expo. Lots of interesting information at the main menu; I think Statical Planets especially looks bizarrely entertaining. Click here to go straight to the main menu and avoid all the intro pages.

Mike Nelson's Movie Megacheese
Mike's book came out June 2000. As I write this (8/13/00), it is in its third printing. It's extremely funny, and every mstie should at least read it, if not buy multiple copies. ;) This is the Amazon.com entry for the book.

Mike's Book Signing in Woodbury, MN
I was so interested by the few RATMM posts on this little event that I thought I'd archive them here for other msties who couldn't be there to see and enjoy.

Timmy Big Hands
No explanation necessary. If you haven't been here yet, do go now.

Mike in TV Guide
Sorry, there's no link here. I hear that Mike Nelson had a piece about rejected ideas for new TV shows in the July 15-21 issue of TV Guide (with the X-Men cover), but I couldn't find it included in the online magazine archive. If you know a place to find it on the web or can help me get a copy of it up, please e-mail me. (JaneCb2@angelfire.com)

Mention of Timmy Big Hands in Newsweek
The text of a tiny article from the week of 7/26/00.

Ironminds
Paul Chaplin, Mike Nelson, and Kevin Murphy now contribute (and Mary Jo will) to this online magazine. So scoot over there and read.

Mike Nelson's 10-Step Cine-Fest
A few words on summer movies which Mike penned for Barnes & Noble.com.

My Dinner With Jesse
A reproduction of Mike Nelson's article in TV Guide from November 1999 provided by ratmmer JimL2.

Announcing... UniFil?
The perfectly serious and in no way tongue-in-cheek press conference at which Mike, Kevin, and Bill announced their new creative group (now defunct, they say, since it turns out UNIFIL already stands for United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon).

Mayberry Melonpool
The comic strip that likes to reference MST.

Mystie Memories
The text of MJN's article that was a 2-page spread in TV Guide.

"MST3K": The Final Transmission
A few words on the end of the show in E! Online, with some quotes from Jim Mallon.

The Satellite of Love crashes: 'MST' is history
A Minneapolis Star-Tribune article.

Local comic and rock'n'roll juggler team up in new play
A 8/1/99 Star Tribune article with some info about and words from Josh.

Weekend Edition
The 8/8/99 edition of the NPR show paid a little homage to the passing of MST by replaying their 1992 spot about the show in its entirety and quoting a few lines from MJN's article in TV Guide. You can listen to the RA of the segment at their site.

Fresh Air
And wouldn't you know it, another NPR program mentioned MST, too. Just go to this site and select Aug 6, 1999 to listen to the airing in which David Bianculli discusses the end of our favorite show.

MST3K says goodbye Sunday with finale
A local newspaper article about the show kindly posted to ratmm, which I found notable for its many words from Kevin Murphy.

MST3K: TM Reviews
Here is a collection of some various reviews of MST: TM, from Roger Ebert to some guy apparently at MIT.

Dragon*Con
This site appears to date from after the first cancellation of the show and before the second ConventioCon. It contains a few pictures from Mike and Kevin's appearance at Dragon*Con.

BBI surfs the nob
An archive at the MSTed Movie Gallery of posts to Usenet from the Brains themselves.

Luke Ski's Psycho Potpourri
Info about a song about the show, called Mystery Science Theater Picture Show, by Luke Ski. It's pretty darn cool. The rest of Luke Ski's songs are pretty funny, too.

Nummy Muffin Cocoa Butter
Frank did a spot for an LA radio station! See the wav way at the botom of the page.

Herd Mentality

Back when relations with Sci-Fi were good, the Brains starred in an original radio show for Seeing Ear Theatre at scifi.com, and this is it.

net.legends FAQ
A tiny mention of Mike Nelson's Jack Perkins, which I thought was kind of neat and amusing.

Los Angeles Times article
The LA Times did an article about Joel in November 1998 after he and his brother started their company.

Lee Press-On and the Nails
In the medley Five Months, Two Weeks, Two Days from their first CD, Live at the Hi-Ball Lounge, LPN sing and play a snippet of the Hike Up Your Pants Song from episode 307, Daddy-O. And yes, for the rabid completionists (like yours truly), you can order the CD from their site. And hey, there's some good fun music on there, besides!

Home Theater Magazine
Mike Nelson writes an often-hilarious monthly column for Home Theater Mag about (what else?) bad movies. To find it click on a month and then look in the sidebar on the left for "Film Flam."

The Simpsons
As you may or may not know, MST3K has made an appearance on The Simpsons. I believe it's in the Who Shot Mr. Burns episode where Smithers is explaining that he had to get home to catch Pardon My Zinger. MST is shown on the TV screen in Moe's bar. This is a link to a picture of the scene.

Mysticon
Mike Nelson was supposed to appear at this luncheon or dinner thing in Sacramento, which was postponed until further notice the last time I saw this site, which was months ago. *The site seemsd to have disappeared now. Again, if you have info about this, e-mail me.*

IRC Chats
Transcripts at Satellite News of thirteen sometimes informative, more often just very funny IRC chats held with the Brains.

Article About Bill
A 5/25/99 article in The Columbus Dispatch about "Bill Corbett, once a writer for Mystery Science Theatre 3000.[sic]" Once a writer... [sob]

BBI Tours
You used to be able to take tours of Best Brains studios weekly (I think usually Thursday), unless they were shooting that day. I'm collecting links to some sites with pictures and accounts of tours for those who never got to take one. The last tour was on March 26, 1999, and my little sister and dad and I were lucky enough to get a spot and drove 12 hours to Minneapolis for the privilege of seeing the place where all the magic was created for ten years. They were writing 1013 while we were there, and [giddy hand movement] my sister and I had the opportunity to meet Mike. He was extremely nice, and readily consented to a picture with my sister even though he was trying to go back inside when we interrupted him. Yes, the whole thing was absolutely wonderful. I'll scan our pics and put them online as soon as a scanner becomes available. Meanwhile enjoy these sites.

Tour Of Best Brains
A tour a person took in December 1998, with a detailed description and seventeen pictures.

Pictures & Tour of BBI
A site detailing the author's meeting Jim Mallon on April 9, 1999, her tour of the studio on January 15, 1999 with several pictures, and a picture of her with Mike Nelson in February of '98 when she met him at BBI.

Astro-Science Theater 3000
Check out this site for pictures and accounts of BBI tours in '96 and '94 and several other eminently neat things.
