Abbreviated Instructions

for Tutorial 1: Creating on Online Resume for Mary Taylor

These instructions are suitable for testing the material, giving the minimum number of clues needed to complete the task, similar to the Review, Project and Case excercises at the end of the chapters. The reference numbers beginning with an "h" are the HTML page numbers given at the top of each page in the textbook.
  1. h1.14 A. Creating Basic Tags
    Type in the initial tags, with a title tag:

    In the body, type in the following information in headers with the indicated alignment:

    Between Objectives and Education, type in the following paragraph text of the objective:

    Between Employment and the ending body tag, type in the following employment text:

  5. h1.22 E. Employment History Separated into Paragraphs
    Format employment history into separate paragraphs.

  6. h1.26 F. Unordered Lists
    Create two bulleted lists of educational attainments.

    1. Type the first list between the headers "Colorado State University" and "Saint Philip University":

      • {Colorado State University}
      • Graduated May, 2001. M.A. International Telecommunications
      • Grade Point Average: 3.5 overall, 3.9 in major
      • Dean's List: September 1999-May 2001
      • Member, Phi Alpha Omega Honor Society
      • {Saint Philip University}

    2. Type the second list between the heading "Saint Philip University" and the Employment header:

      • {Saint Philip University}
      • Graduated May, 1999. B.A. International Studies
      • Grade Point Average: 4.0 overall, 4.0 in major
      • Dean's List: September 1996-May 1999
      • President, Honor Key Society
      • {Employment}

  7. h1.29 G. Applying Physical Character Tags
    Apply bold, then italics to the three job titles beginning each of the paragraphs in the Employment section of the resume.
  8. h1.31 H. Special Character Codes
    Add a middle dot using the code number in the address below "Mary Taylor" where the following asterisks are placed:
  9. h1.32 I. Inserting Horizontal Line
    Add a full width, centered horizontal line on its own HTML line by pressing enter at the end of the HTML line with the address on it.

  10. h1.34 J. Inserting a Graphic & Completed Resume Page
    Place Taylor.jpg as a centered, inline image on an HTML line by itself after the horizontal line, save the file as Resume.htm, and view it on the web browser.
