it was dark. waiting in the rain, stream rose off the pavement and swirled around her feet. she shoved her hands deep into her pockets and waited some more, wondering if this was wrong. a car buzzed by, throwing a spray of water over her, into her face and all over her clothes. she swore to herself and threw the receeding vision of the car a dirty glance, moving away from the road. she wasn't sure what she was waiting for, and she knew she looked the fool standing in the rain with no coat on. but she knew it was something important, something not to be missed. her intuition hadn't betrayed her yet and she wasn't about to give it up on account of a little rain.
she was a gangly girl, straggly dark hair and piercing green eyes. ripped jeans and a skin tight t shirt adorned her, the outfit completed with a heavy pair of shitkickers. her face was streaked with rain, her hair and clothes clung to her. she knew she must have looked the sight but still she stood. pulling out a pack of marlboro reds, she lit one and inhaled deeply, blowing the smoke strait out and watched as it deteriorated into the air.
she hadn't had a good day. dragging herself into the school was the hardest, the piercing voices of the other kids tauting her still were etched into her mind. it wasn't the money, it wasn't the appearance. it was the way she chose to live her life that the others taunted her for. echos of 'dyke' and the other horrible names they called her haunted her endlessly. but it didn't bother her, for she was strong. she wished she had someone to keep her that way, for she was spiriling downward quickly, losing herself into a pit of nothingness. thats why she was there right then. her gut had told her not to miss this day, this place. so she waited more.
a figure was heading her way on the empty street and she silently wished it wasn't someone she knew that would make a deal out of her standing in the rain alone. she moved closer to the building behind her and clung into the shadows, wiping the rain from her face and watching the figue move closer. as the person grew closer, she noticed it was a girl about her age, a beautiful girl in a skirt and a tank top, a pair of ragged boots on her feet. short hair and beautiful eyes, moving slowly and staring intently at her.
stepping out of the shadows slowly, she looked back at the girl and their eyes met. both stopped, a good space between them, checking each other over. the girl began to speak but the beautiful figure before her jumped towards her quickly and put a finger over her lips. no words were needed, they both knew it. the girl moved her finger and leaned in, kissing the other girl lightly on the lips and stepping back slowly, looking into her eyes. they kissed again, tounges tracing over each other gently, pulling apart unwillingly. both girls stared at each other, and the beauiful one turned and began to walk away. the other followed close behind, not wanting to let this angel out of her sight. the girl slowed so she could catch up and when she did, reached over and took her hand, squeezing lightly. they walked, for miles it seemed they walked, through the dirty city into the cleaner neighborhood and back into the run down areas, the both girlsting go of her grip on the other.
suddenly she stopped and the girl looked around expectantly, seeing nothing, and for the first time noticing th rain had stopped. the girl dropped her hand and once more pulled her close, kissing her gently and then stepped back, looking once more into her eyes. taking steps backwards, she melted into the scenery, leaving the girl alone once more. and the rain began to fall, mixing in with the girls tears, as she turned and walked back home.
