PROLOGUE

"I don't think I can go," she said into the phone.
"Come on! It'll be fun!" pleaded Natalie. "Leave a note for your parents if you are worried. You're eighteen you're not a baby anymore."
"Yeah, you're right," said Sarah, jotting down a quick note for her parents. Soon Natalie came with some friends and picked her up. They were packed into the tiny car like sardines but they were laughing and having a good time.
That's why they didn't see the truck coming.
The big Randy-Rent-All truck hit them head on. The last thing Sarah heard before the collision was the screach of the tires on the pavement as Natalie tried to stop the car, then the shattering of glass and finally a scream that was quickly cut off.
Sarah searched frantically as a dense fog covered the scene. Her friends were lying dead on the pavement .
Except for him.
It was his fault.
He regarded her solemnly from across the street like an avenging angel. A messenger of death. A carrier of sorrow and pain.
Sarah dropped to her knees in the fog and rain as the wail of the sirens got closer and closer.
