CHAPTER 3
4 years later

"You're 18! You should be allowed to go! It's bad enough that you can't go on the class trip but. . . .this is just a little chorus trip! Jesus Christ! Your parents are such tightasses!" yelled Dani.
"They have reason to be," Sarah muttered. In the last four years she had changed a lot. She no longer hated Lance but she was still pretty emotionally disturbed by the whole incident.
After the funerals she had never seen Lance again. Her parents moved from Virginia to upstate New York. She had met new people and made new best friends, Dani, Hollie, and Jenny, but she would never be the same happy person that she was at 14. When she still had her sister.
Her new friends knew that her sister had died in a car accident but they didn't know the details. She never dated and hardly ever left the house, except for extracurricular activities and occasionally going to her friends' houses.
Since the accident her parents had become very strict. Not letting her get her license until recently, and that was only for emergencies, and not wanting her to date. Not that she blamed them though. She didn't want to do any of those things.
She looked around her room and her eyes stopped on a picture of her and Natalie, three days before the accident. They were sitting in their backyard. They were identical twins and even their parents had a little bit of difficulty telling them apart but there were subtly differences between them.
Nat had been a little bit taller, only about an inch, but still taller. Both of their eyes were green but hers had a bluish violet hue to them. Her hair was a little lighter too. Most people couldn't notice those things but they could.
Sarah on the other hand was the shorter of the two sisters and a bit more curvy. Her hair was a shade darker than Natalie's and her eyes were a dull grey green. Not much to look at.
She was still day dreaming when Dani broke through her thoughts.
"Earth to Sarah!" she yelled.
"Ummm. . . .what?" Sarah asked.
"I said did you watch that show on the Disney channel last night? The one with the concert on it?" asked Dani.
"No, why?"
"OMIGOD!!!!! They are so great! They are so hott! They are the best!" she yelled.
"Who?"
"*NSYNC!"
"Oh."
"That curly boy is fine!" said Dani. "He's got some fine baked buns, if you know what I mean! Hollie likes the gay one. . . .Lenny I think his name is."
Sarah laughed. She didn't know who Dani was talking about but she figured he must be pretty hot. Unlike Lance, she thought to herself. She conjured up a picture of Lance in her mind.
The way that she remembered him was the last way she had seen him. At Nat's funeral. At each funeral he had worn a melancholy black suit. His silky blonde hair was cut in an extremely gay style and his beautiful green eyes were shadowed with grief and were red rimmed and puffy from crying.
Silky hair? Beautiful eyes? Where the hell did that come from? she thought. His hair was the color of dry grass but he did have beautiful eyes, she admitted. He probably has boobs now, she thought and began to laugh.
"What's so funny?" demanded Dani.
"Ummm, nothing. I gotta go." They said their good byes and Sarah hung up her phone. She would ask her parents about the trip.
*****
The next day, Saturday, was stormy so Sarah stayed in her room and listened to her radio. One of her favorite songs was on the radio, but she didn't know who sang it.
"It's hard to say I'm sorry, It's hard to make the things I did undone, a lesson I've learned too well for sure," Sarah sang along with the radio.
"You are listening to K104.7," said Terry Donovan, the DJ. "That last song is by a group of guys from Orlando, Florida. They're called *NSYNC. Justin, Chris, Joey, La-" her radio died.
"Oh, Damn!" said Sarah. She took out the old batteries and threw them in the trash. She turned on her TV.
She flipped through the stations and stopped on the Disney channel when the phone rang.
"Hello?" she asked.
"OMIGOD!" Dani screamed into the phone. Sarah jerked the phone away from her ear and waited for Dani to finish screaming.
"Are you done?" she asked when the screams had subsided considerably.
"YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE WHO HAS A CONCERT THE EXACT SAME TIME THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE IN MARYLAND ON THE CHORUS TRIP!" screamed Dani.
"You're right, I'm sure I won't believe it. So who is it?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
"*NSYNC! AND I GOT US TICKETS! CURLY BOY AND HIS ASS ARE MINE!" Dani yelled. Sarah just laughed.
Dani said that she had to go and tell Hollie and Jenny so they hung up. Sarah turned back to her TV. A sinking feeling developed in the pit of her stomach.
"No," she whispered. A face that she had never thought to see again was flashing across the screen.
Lance.
He was in *NSYNC. Sarah just couldn't believe it. She couldn't back out on Dani about the trip, now that her parents were finally letting her go, but the thought that Lance might see her. . . ..Sarah shuddered.
All of her old feelings of revenge came flooding back. She was finally going to be able to get even. The only question of doubt was, if she anted revenge so much, how come thinking about it left her with such an empty feeling inside?

CHAPTER 4
Four weeks later the chorus bus left Beacon high school on the eight hour drive to Maryland. The entire eight hour drive all Dani could talk about was *NSYNC. Sarah wanted to scream. She didn't want to hear about it.
Sarah was nervous for two reasons. The first reason was because of the chorus competition. The first day you could pretty much hang out and do what you wanted, but that night you had rehearsals. The next day was the pre-competition, with the judges and that night was the competition itself. She had been in chorus since elementary school but she had never competed in a competition of this magnitude. It would even be on TV. The best choral groups in the country would be there.
The second reason why she was nervous was because she would be going to a concert that Lance would be performing in.
When they got to their hotel, which was pretty fancy, their choral instructor told them they had the day off and that they had to be back at the hotel by five.
Sarah looked at her watch. It was only eleven thirty. Sarah, Dani, Hollie, and Jenny put their bags in the room they were sharing.
"So what do you wanna do?" asked Jenny, flopping down onto the bed.
"I believe I spotted a mall a few blocks away," Dani said. Sarah tensed up when she heard the word mall. It's not that she hadn't been to a mall in four years but they made her anxious.
"Yeah! Come on!" said Hollie enthusiastically.
They walked down the long staircase instead of using the elevators. On the way out of the hotel doors Sarah caught a glimpse of a handsome blonde man out of the corner of her eye. Something about him was familiar but she would have sworn that she had never seen them before.
He had his arms wrapped around a young girl in a mauve dress. Lucky girl Sarah thought. She quickly caught up with Dani, Hollie, and Jenny.
They walked to the mall and stopped by a kiosk in the middle of the mall. Sarah saw the most awesome lamp in the world.
It was a big blue unicorn with blue sparkles all over it. The unicorn's tail and mane were made out of pink marabou and hot pink feathers. There was lace and fake flowers stuck on it too. It was just so tacky. But Sarah loved it. It was the same color blue as her room. She collected lamps and lights. She had to have it. She looked at the pricetag. It cost fifty dollars. That was all of her spending money. She was in the middle of begging Dani, Hollie and Jenny for just a little money when she felt strong arms encircle her waist and a chin resting on her shoulder.
"I could bye it for you," said the deep slightly accented male voice. Sarah would have known that voice anywhere.
"Omigod!" she yelled softly so that only Dani, Hollie, Jenny, and the man holding her would hear. "Is this Kevin from the Backstreet Boys?" she asked. The arms released her immediately.
"No!" came the reply. Sarah turned around slowly.
"I knew it was you," she whispered. "I would have known your voice anywhere." He smiled and wrapped his arms around her again.
"You've changed but I recognized you outside the hotel, so I followed you." She wrapped her arms around him. She wanted to be held by him for just a moment.
"I'm so so sorry Lance," she said, the tears beginning to stream down her face.
"For what?" he asked, rubbing his cheek against her hair. Lance slowly lifted his head when he felt something cold and hard press against his chest. He glanced down.
"Sarah?" he asked her beginning to get scared. He heard the click of the trigger before his chest exploded in a fiery agony.
He flew backward, knocking the display of tacky, blue unicorn lamps over. He felt his blood spilling out of the gaping wound in his chest. But he wasn't dead.
Yet.
A film began to slowly cloud his beautiful green eyes. Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. He heard the shocked stares of the mall patrons.
He saw the mall security guards come rushing up and grabbing Sarah roughly. He tried to speak. Tried to tell them to let her go but his mouth was full of his own blood.
He saw them knock her down and the gun flew out of the security guard's hand. He saw it land not even two feet from Sarah. He saw her scramble to her feet with the gun in her hand.
"Drop the gun!" the security guard yelled.
That was when Lance found his voice. Sarah looked over her shoulder at him, the tears were still streaming down her face.
"I love you," he croaked. He knew that she had killed him but he loved her anyway.
"I'm sorry," she sobbed brokenly. She leaned down and brushed her lips against his, disregarding the blood which was now spattered on her. She turned her back to him. He saw her lift her arm, the gun still in her hand. Time seemed to stand still for an endless second.
"Drop the gun!" the security guard repeated.
He saw her pull the trigger in the same instant the security guards' guns, riddled her body with holes.
That was the last thing he saw before his eyes closed, never to open again. He felt her body collapse onto his. His chest rose one last time, then lay still.

CHAPTER 5
There was an insistent pounding in Sarah's head. It took her bleary mind a moment to realize someone was knocking on the door. It also took her a moment to realize that she had been dreaming. She wiped the tears from her face and answered the door. It was Dani.
"Jesus! You look like shit!" she said. "We went to the mall because you were sleeping."
"Oh," she mumbled. Her eyes filled with tears again at the thought of killing Lance.
"Hey, are you OK?" Dani asked her concernedly.
"Yeah, I'm fine," said Sarah. And for once she realized that she wasn't lying. After having that dream she realized that she had to get ion with her life, she couldn't dwell on the past and things that she couldn't change. Her hate for Lance was gone, if it was anybody's fault it was Chuck's but he was dead. She felt as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
Some dreams mean things. Others can forshadow the future, but the important ones will never fade from your mind.
