Chapter 3

CHAPTER 3

Lance ran after Sarah, barely managing to keep up with her quick strides. He followed her into her hotel and up the stairs. He finally caught up with her outside of her room.
"Sarah!" he panted. She turned around and tried to get into the room. She slid in and closed the door but Lance pushed it open. "Will you just listen?" he cried exasperatedly.
"I don't need to listen! You made yourself perfectly clear back there!" she said bitterly.
"I was barely 17 and you wanted me to make a commitment?" he asked stunned. "Did you love Chuck?" he demanded harshly.
Sarah's mind went blank. Love Chuck? At one point she had thought that she did but. . . .
"I. . .I really don't think. . . .it's none of your business!" she said, tossing back her head. Lance smirked.
"A bit hypocritical huh?" he queried. Sarah glared.
"Shut up!" she said when he continued to smile at her. His green eyes mesmerized her, like a cobra hypnotizes its victims before it strikes.
"I haven't said anything. What's the problem?" Sarah didn't answer.
"I don't. . . ."
"Have I asked you to do anything?"
"Leave?" she asked. Sarah didn't trust herself. If he didn't leave soon she didn't know what she'd do.
"I can't," he whispered, moving towards her. He pulled her into his arms and pressed his lips over hers. Sarah made a small sound and wrapped her arms around his neck. Her fingers toyed with the wispy tendrils of hair at his nape.
Sarah's lips were soft and Lance groaned into her mouth. The openmouthed kiss was so erotic that it could have qualified as a sex act in itself.
Lance's tongue swept into her mouth repeatedly, while his hands pressed her closer to his body. Soon though, kissing was not enough. Lance wanted to feel her smooth nakedness body against his own.
His fingers slowly traced a path over her collarbone down to her breasts. He cupped them in his palms and felt their peaks harden.
Lance's hands traveled down her sides to her waist. He gripped the edge of her top and slowly lifted it over her head.
Sarah felt a blush heat her skin.
"I've never seen a woman blush all over," he murmured. "I like it." He pulled her into his arms and kissed her again, tracing the curves of her body.
Sarah moaned and pulled away.
"Lance. . . .we. . .we can't," she said, covering herself.
"Are you still worried?" he asked, wrapping his arms around her and resting his chin on her shoulder.
"No. I have to sing tomorrow. I can't be tired." She indulged in her small fantasy and ran her fingers through his hair.
"Is that why you're here?" he asked.
She nodded and he realized something.
"Then you're leaving?"
"Tomorrow night." She felt him stiffening in her embrace and pulled away. "See, it would have been a mistake. Why don't you go?"
Lance nodded in agreement. He reached the door and turned, trying to ease some of the awkward tension.
"It was nice seeing you again Sarah. Real nice," he said before he left. Sarah caught his intended innuendo.
She watched him leave and watched as all the dreams that she had had faded away into nothingness.
