Well i must give credit to the genius who came up with idea of getting together some of the best music Victoria has to offer all together in one kick ass night. All week I had been excited about this show... and finally the night arrived. I even made my gf get off early from work so we could get there in time for the show to start. Needless to say, she was quite pissed at me when the show didnt start til 8:30. But oh well... one must wait for good things i guess. Well besides the night starting off slow, it went off with a huge burst of Punk frenzy. The Paybacks took over the stage with some of the best punk ive heard around victoria in a long time. The energy was tremendous. They really know how to get the crowd going. NOt being a huge punk fan at all... in fact, i cant stand punk music... but i enjoyed watching the paybacks. Definately an asset to victoria's music scene!
After the Paybacks left the stage... the tension was definately at an all high as Lordiel began setting up. I took my gf and got to the front of the stage. well as far front as i could. I watched and listened to the band warm up with lil riffs and licks here and there... tried to make out some of the small riffs i heard. I only noticed JT play a small portion of the Intro the Blind Guardian's "mirror mirror". GOd i wouldve loved to hear a cover of that one... C'mon guys what do u say??? hehe. Anyway after all that was done... they blew up on stage with "Requiem" by Trans-siberian orchestra. I fukin love this song, and i wondered how'd they would incorporate the chanting. My questions were answered when i heard Isaac brilliantly playing a keyboard adding drama and texture to not only "requiem". But to a few other songs of there's as well. I am proud to say i am a true Lordiel fan now. I can't wait to see these guys play again! Good job metal warriors!
After lordiel left the stage, the group i was with was seriously contemplating leaving for a drink and coming back... we got as far as outside. Chatted with a few friends, said our goodbyes to a few leaving, and decided to hop back into the place to hear some more kick ass tunes. The next band was Sircle Switch. This was my first time seeing these guys play. They did a good job i thought. They worked the crowd well... talked with them... and interacted with them. Thats always a plus. There was definately feeling to their songs... expressed in a mixed array of emotions ranging from denial, to modesty, to anger, then to hate. I would see these guys again.
Well after that performance, I am sad to say i didn;'t return to see the rest of what i heard was a kick ass show. Instead me and my friends went to pick up our guitars and jammed for a few hours. What can I say? Seeing music makes me want to play it! I hope these shows have the same impact on those who don't play instruments right now. To influence them into going out and learning to play, so we can carry on spreading the word of kick ass music! Keep fukin metal alive!
