Aj looked a little sore himself, with a cut on his nose. “I can’t remember a thing.” He informed them all, breaking the thick silence which had filled the room.
“Well you must have been your usual smart arse self again if them made such a mess of your face.” Brian said dryly.
Howie smiled, “Could say the same about you.”
“I don’t know what I could have done.”
Kevin signed, “ We’re all alive so I’m assuming that we’re all okay? “
“I suppose you could say…where’s Thomas?” Nick asked.
“If we’re alive he probably is as well.” Kevin told him, “ But right now, do any of you guys remember any thing at all?”
They all sat silently, afraid because they didn’t know what had happened.
“I think we should be more careful. No one hears about our plans until the very last possible moment.” Brain said, “And I don’t want any one disappearing off on their own for any reason. I think staying alive should be our main concern, curiosity can be handled at a later time when our lives aren’t in danger. Nick get that look off your face.”
73 opened her eyes feeling like a tone of bricks. Her head hurt and keeping herself conscious was a painstaking process.
“I see you’re awake.”
“I’m also in pain 26.” .
The agent smiled slyly, “So I noticed, pity really , I told Doc that you wouldn’t need anything.”
“You do realize that I don’t appreciate that.” 73 said coldly.
26 handed her a bunch of tablets and a glass of water, “You collapsed during the interview.”
73 took the tablets gratefully. "You insist on stating the obvious don’t you?”
26 shrugged, “The Doc said that you should keep it quiet for a while, they think you collapsed from exhaustion.”
“Didn’t think they cared…” 73 muttered bitterly. “Did you get anything out of them?”
“Nothing, although they kept on babbling on about some guy trying to kill them. I really couldn’t give a damn.”, then she smiled again. “You better get some sleep , we’ve go school tomorrow.”
73 closed and silently argued with god, for not having let her die from exhaustion.
26 rolled her eyes. She couldn’t listen to 73 complain any more. The girls mind jumped from school to coffee—perhaps for 73 there was a connection, but 26 couldn’t find them. Instead of screaming and having a nervous break down, 26 civilly made a slid show of all the different ways in which it would be possible to kill 73:
1) Give her drugs and decompose her body in acid?
2) Let her overdose on drugs…. nope no good she’d clean
3) Go on a safari and accidentally leave her behind with the lions…..get a grip! She snapped at herself, Safari? Lions? Goodness I must be going mad!
”26…26…”
“watch your mouth Yaz .What are you calling me 26 for?” She snapped half-heartedly.
73 rolled her eyes. “Erin— Great now I’ve forgotten what I was gonna say.
“It was probably about school anyway.”
They headed down the stairs and out of the building.
“what do I have next?” 73 asked absently.
“I think you have Modern History, oh wait! I’m in your class for that. We had that essay due today. I haven’t done it yet.” 26 wailed miserably.
“Ok Erin calm down, get your laptop out and start typing. Save it onto your disk. You have all of lunch time to finish, besides,” A small sly smiled crossed 73’s face, momentarily replacing the cold blank expression she usually wore, “ You have certain talents which may help.”
”Gimmie a break.”
“you need one.”
“hey guys.” Emily’s call broke off the battle of wits that was about to take place.
“She just had biology how do you think she is feeling?” 73 snapped.
“Isn’t so very ironic that you know her timetable but not your own.”
“73 shrugged, “No not really. Don’t you have an essay to write?”
26 frowned, reached into her bag and pulled out her laptop.
“Anyway Yaz. I see you folder is nearly as fat as mine. Emily observed.
“It’ll be just as fat soon. I’ve got Modern next.”
“Guys! You will not believe this!” Jessica yelled running to them.
“Her voice carries very far doesn’t it?” 26 muttered. A group of year7’s were watching the group of older students with interest. 73 glanced over at them, and suddenly they had plenty of reasons to loose interest.
“You won’t believe this….” Jess said panting for air.
“You’ve already told us that.” Em pointed out.
“My brother got me 5 tickets to the Backstreet boys concert on Tuesday night.” She squealed happily. She saw 73 choking on her lunch. “Yaz you okay?”
73 smiled weakly still choking, “Don’t worry I’m fine.” She assured them,
26’s eye’s widened, "Hey hold on a minute. You’re not expecting us to go with you are you?” She asked alarmed.
Jess grinned and handed her a ticket.
”I can’t go. I had this really bad dream that I went to a concert with you and died…”
“Oh Yaz could you stop being so antisocial and go out for once and have fun?” Emily snapped at her.
”To deliberately put myself in the middle of a thousand screaming girls, would categorize me as in sain.” 73 explained.
“Well. That doesn’t cause any problems now dose it.”
A retort had formed it self onto 73’s lips when 26 suddenly said, “ I really think we should go Yaz.” She had a twinkle in her eye, that told 73 she was up to something.
“I’ll consider it.”
“Good, now would you shut up while I do my essay.”
“Sure thing.” Jess said, smiling and pleased that she had been able to drag her friends along with her. “Any one wanna come to the City with Becca and me this Saturday?” She asked.
”I’ll come, but I’ve gotta go to HMV and get a CD first.” 73 volunteered.
“First time she’s agreed to go out without being forced to.” Em said with a smile 73 ignored.
”I’ll come as well.”
”Do your essay.”
