Chapter 14

“I really don’t need an ambulance .” 26 insisted.
73 turned away from the group, a sulky expression on her face. Heins, who had suddenly re-appeared, motioned for one of the guards to follow her. He followed, but at a good distance. 73 walked to the other side of the warehouse and curled and to a corner.
She spared a glance for the guard behind her and pulled out her cell.
“agent 73 here…”
26 opened her eyes and closed them quickly feeling dizzy. When she finally managed to open her eyes without the rest of the world spinning, she noticed 73 was missing. Where was the stupid girl? Did she do something to confirm Heinze’s suspicions and have her self dragged away…
She was almost relieved at the sight of 73 skulking figure in a corner. Her relief was soon replaced by curiosity.
Two things could never be doubted about agents. One: Agents don’t sulk, and the second was that if they did, they were up to something….
An ambulance pulled into the warehouse, bringing 26 out of her thoughts. Well , at least that explained something…
73 got out of her little corner and sat down next to 26.
“They’re not happy.” 26 informed her.
The girl didn’t reply, “How are you ?”
“I’ll survive, I’m sure Heck can fix me up.”
Suddenly someone pulled 73 off the ground. She was a moment away from having her attacker dead, when she again remembered where she was. She turned around and saw Carter and Richardson behind her. They weren’t happy.
“You better handle that kid.” Richardson hissed at her. Carter didn’t say anything but from his expression it was clear that he was thinking the same.
“What makes you think I—.”
“Why don’t you just go and have a little talk with the ambulance boy there.” Carter suggested acidly.
73 wondered how the men would have reacted if they had actually recognised herself and 26. She turned silently towards the ambulance. “Hey James.” She greeted the agent.
“What’s this all about?” He asked looking around.
“I’ve been kidnapped by a boy band.” She sneered.
Agent 19 hid a thin smile. For a moment he looked like a mad man, but the moment passed so quickly that 73 began to doubt herself. “If you survive through this , there is still Felin to see. You’re already a little late. “
“Sorry I hadn’t expected the kidnap. I’ll remember to calculate that possibility next time.” She replied sarcastically. She looked over her shoulder at the men. “You better beat it 19. I think they’re smelling the fish.”
19 smiled absently and got back onto the ambulance.
73 watched him drive away, then turned around and walked back to where the men were standing. “Happy?” she snapped forgetting the roll she was supposed to be playing.
All she received were sets of icy stares.
“What now?” Emily asked quietly.
Litteral shook his head, “You know guys, this has gotten a little out of hand.”
Dorough nodded his agreement, “Maybe we should let them go. We are accusing a bunch of kids may I add.”
“You can’t let them go!” Heins snapped suddenly appearing again. 73 really wished she knew where it was he kept disappearing off to. “They know too much! What if one of them decides to talk to a newspaper?”

“Look at this innocent little face!” Richardson snapped at the small man, pulling 73’s cheeks. “Does she look like a murderer to you?”
“But! She’s …” Heins looked like a man who was about to loose something precious. The agents were loving every moment of his agony.
“Heins I dunno what you’re on, but I really think that this has gone on long enough. Look at us! Grown men accusing kids of murder.!" MacLean said turning a disgusted face to the man. “I think we should get them home." He looked at the girls, “I’m really sorry ‘bout this girls.”

In the men’s limo it was strange atmosphere. The girls were a little sulky, but Jess and Rebecca couldn’t help but to talk about music. Emily watched with a disgusted expression , not understanding their every second word. The agents stared out into space , trying as best as they could to make every one uncomfortable. During their apologies the men even offered the girls tickets to their concert, (ignoring the fact that they already had tickets) but they were told, quiet bluntly, by 73 what to do with them( Try getting abducted with a migraine and we’ll see what kind of language you’ll use.)
The agents staring-into-space session ended once they were the last two left to be dropped off.
“So…did you girls have fun at the city today?” AJ began , hating the hostile silence the two seemed to carry around with them.
“No.” They both grunted.
“Are you two always this communicative or did we catch you on a good day?” Kevin asked annoyed.
“Go to hell.” 26 muttered half heartedly.
“Well,, we’re a fucking ray of sunshine today.” Nick snapped.
“Compared to you Mr. Carter a garbage dump is a fucking ray of sunshine.” 73 replied flatly.
“what the hell is wrong with you two?” Brian snapped finally, “We said we were sorry, and believe me we are. We should—.”
Litteral’s sudden out burst sent 73’s hands flying towards her head. She sank deeper into her seat trying to avoid the horrid pain.
The man looked to 26 for answers, “What’s with her?” Dorough asked a little concerned.
26 opened her mouth to reply but 73 beat her, “It’s none of your business.” She sent trough gritted teeth.
“Can’t we go any faster?” 26 asked clinging her own sore side. She actually wished 73 could be driving.
“70’s the speed limit—.”
Fuck the speed limit!”
“And don’t we just have a rosy language.” Carter muttered . “Watch it Carter.” 26 warned. She didn’t really want 73’s years of training to get the best of her.
“What?” Kevin asked laughing, “Are you ordering us around?”
73 wondered how amused he would be hanging off a bridge by his intestines.
“Same goes for you Richardson.”
At that point Richardson had a little flash back. “Do I know you from some where?” He asked suspiciously.
26 raised an eyebrow, “Yeah that’s why I don’t go there any more." She retorted.
The car stopped and 73 almost kicked the door open.
“You’ve missed the weapons demonstration. “ agent 66 told them , “You’re two hours late.”
“We were abducted by a boy band.” 26 supplied.
“If you see 19 could you get him to find me some Panadol’s?” 73 asked brushing past the agent.

“Oh look, the cat missed the demo.” Agent 36 sneered. She turned to 26, “Did you loose your cat?” She asked referring to 73.
“Now there is a 81 I’d rather see dead.” 26 muttered.
“What do you want 36?” 73 snapped, ignoring agent 40 standing next to her.
“You out of our face.” 40 snapped.
“I asked 36.”
40 turned crimson at the reply.

Dr Heck’s appearance cut off the battle. “26, 73, good to see you two.” He greeted them, “I was so sorry you two had missed the demo. Guess now I can give you a personal tour.”
“Thanks Doc. We really didn’t mean to miss the demo.” 73 said sweetly. The sight made 26’s stomach turn. It seemed that no one could still accept that 73 was a blood thirsty little…thing!
“Yeah we had trouble.” 26 added.

“Hey watch it office boy!” 73 turned in time to see 40 splash the glass of water in James’s face. She also noticed the pack of Panadol’s 19 was holding. The water had been for her.
“Hey 40.” She yelled.
“73 don’t do this…” 26 begged, but 73 moved towards the scene not even hearing her.
“What?” The big agent asked looking down at her with a bored expression on his face.
“That water was for me.” She told him acidly , taking the packet of pain killers from 19.
“So?” He asked grinning.
73 swung her arm and hit the agent as hard as she could. He fell to the ground nursing his bleeding nose, agent 36 at his side.
“So , you have a broken nose.”

“This here is one of my favourites.” The doctor said picking up a packet of gum. The two girls looked at him confused. “Oh use your imagination!’ He moaned, “They’re bombs.”
“Oh.”
Heck shook his head, “Some times I wonder how you two get trough your missions.’ He muttered.
“We do a lot of aiming and shooting.” 73 supplied innocently.
Heck handed them each a packet and moved on.
“These are for 73.” He said handing the girl a clear sphere full of purple and orange tablets.
She opened it. “Smells like fruit.” She said sniffing, “What are they?”
“Orange and Grape flavoured pain killers.
73 rolled her eyes,“Oh useful.”
“They’re useful 73. They’re more effective than those Panadol’s you take by the handful.”
“What’s this?” 26 asked, her attention turned towards a blue ball. It seemed to be filled with liquid.
“That’s supposed to explode if you throw it at a wall.” He said opening a fridge and handing them each a bottle.
“And these?” 73 asked studying the bottle critically.
Heck glanced at her. “It’s a glucose drink. I though that you looked tiered.”
“I always get humiliated down here." She muttered bitterly.
“One of these days I’m going to have to invent a happy pill for grumpy agents like you.”

73 chocked on her drink and laughed.
Puzzled, 26 looked to the doctor for answers.
“It’s got something in it to make you feel better.” He explained.
“You just drugged an agent on duty.” 73 accused him, but her accusation didn’t sound too harsh. The girl was actually in a good mood.
“I’ll take a box.” 26 whispered to Heck. He smiled knowingly.

A few steps later, Heck stopped in front of a safe. He punched in the codes, had his eyes and hand scanned. The safe finally opened. He slowly took two cases out and ceremonially handed them to the agents.

The agents opened the cases and studied the black objects inside. Heck watched them enthusiastically. “This is our latest design. …”

Dr. Heck’s demonstration took a little while longer. Both agents got a set of the new weapons. The doctor insisted that they should.
