About The Artist

Bob Almond began life January 4, 1967 in Seoul, Korea but relocated to the United States after only a few weeks. At the age of nine, he discovered comics and became a self-proclaimed 'Marvel zombie' which led to a vast comic collection including the entire run of AVENGERS. George Perez's artwork motivated Bob to learn his craft and develop his skills as a sequential art story-teller with the end goal of becoming a professional comic book artist. He, his brother Mike and their friends that shared their interest in comics formed the homemade 'Torpedo Comics' which lasted until Bob's sophomore year in high school when 'real life' reared its ugly head and got in the way.

After high school, Bob attended UMass Dartmouth with a major in illustration. He scored well on his senior project - a graphic novel of a sci-fi/fantasy/horror anthology done with sequential art storytelling. In 1990, he graduated with a BFA in Illustration (and got married to boot). Bob then collected rejection slips for the next two years before going pro with the aid of Bernie Wrightson and Jim Starlin. Bob had been an attendee at the annual Wrightson Halloween bash since being invited after he interviewed Bernie over the telephone for a college project. Bob was able to display his work to Bernie's pal, Jim Starlin, who in turn convinced his editor to hire Bob to work on WARLOCK AND THE INFINITY WATCH in 1992 when Terry Austin left the series.

After two years on that first comic, Bob moved onward to other projects but has done some work for Marvel every year since. His work has also appeared in various titles put out by such groups as Penny-Farthing Press, Malibu and Acclaim Comics. He has also done projects for DC Comics and other publishers. Currently, Bob is the inking half of the art team on Marvel's critically-acclaimed BLACK PANTHER series teamed up with his regular collaborator Sal Velluto. He currently resides in New Bedford, Massachusettes with his family (wife Diane and son Nathan) and Coco the cat.

In addition to Sal Velluto and George Perez, some of Bob's favorite artists are John Byrne, Frank Miller, Michael Golden, Klaus Janson, Joe Rubenstein, Terry Austin, Neal Adams, Jim Starlin, Jim Steranko, Mark Farmer, Tom Palmer, Bob Layton, Adam Hughes, Bernie Wrightson, Jack Kirby, John Buscema, Carlos Pacheco, Jeff Jones, Alex Ross and many others as well.

Bob's favorite TV shows include Buffy, Alias, Angel, Six Feet Under, ER, X-Files, The Practice and last, but not least, The Simpsons. His musical tastes bounce from rock to 70s/80s pop to R&B to alternative with an equally eclectic selection of bands and performers. Bob's favorite comic title is still AVENGERS - especially with George Perez's return to the line.
