Rest In Pieces

Dr. Abraham B. Cornelius

Death In: X-Men, Vol. 1, No. 7 - December 1992

"He was there in the beginning -- when a handful of scientists destroyed a man named Logan and replaced him with a killing machine named Wolverine. In a perverse sort of way, the doctor believes that by killing Wolverine, he's somehow making amends."
(X-Men, Vol. 1, No. 7)

A doctor on the run - Dr. Cornelius fled the United States after a death earned him the headline label of "Mercy Killer" Quack. The Professor of Experiment X sent Dr. Cornelius a folder full of clippings about his fugitive status and the F.B.I. pursuit... along with his phone number. Dr. Cornelius got the gist - he called - he was in the Experiment X program whether he cared for it or not.

Hines: "I mean did Mr. Logan volunteer for this?"
Cornelius: "Uh..... no."
Hines: "Was Mr. Logan abducted then?"
Cornelius: "Uhh.... yuh. I ain't too proud of this, Hines, but yeah."
Hines: "We're doing something bad, aren't we, sir?"
Cornelius: "Well......"
Hines: "Mr. Logan was forced into this."
Cornelius: "I dunno about forced, Hines. See, if you listen to the Professor... it's like... this is all kinda pre-ordained. It's like Logan's destiny or something..."
Hines: "How could the Professor know Mr. Logan's destiny, sir?"
Cornelius: "I dunno..... to be honest."
Marvel Comics Presents, No. 84

For all the pain and torment that Dr. Cornelius put Logan through under the instructions of the Professor for the Experiment X program, it wasn't Logan who ended his life. That shot came from Logan's old Team X friend, Maverick.

Logan: "A flesh wound couldn't o' done the job?"
Maverick: "Might have. But it wouldn't have been nearly as dramatic."
