An Irish orphan who had lost both parents to influenza, Rose was twelve when she met the boy who'd grow up into the Logan we know. How old Logan himself was at that time is more of a question, but Rose was the older of the pair. By how many years is hard to say since he was sickly as a child and small for his age.

Logan (or as he was known then, James) rarely saw his mother after the death of his elder brother, so the only females he was around were Rose and the housekeeper, Mrs. Hopkins (who spent most of her time with his mother or attending to the household). Only natural then that as the only female within ten years of his own age that Rose would become his main impression of what a woman was supposed to be. And Rose was in many ways the sort of woman Logan is still drawn to - strong-willed, spirited and intelligent.

After circumstances forced them to leave together (see the Origin series for the full story), Rose and Logan posed as cousins - which may well be how Rose felt toward him, but wasn't what Logan came to feel for her. She was the first woman he loved (or at least thought he loved). After her accidental death, Logan left what passed then for civilization for a time.
