Kopanga is a gracious one hundred year old double-brick home with a slate roof in one of the most private and exclusive parts of Nelson. The extensive garden contains many mature trees, rhododendrons and camellias, as well as roses and perennials. The section (1545 sq m) is in two titles.

The house has two living rooms, a large kitchen-dining area, five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a colonial verandah and garaging for two cars plus a boat. All living rooms face the sun and the privacy of each bedroom is a feature.

The New Zealand Historic Places Trust has registered Kopanga as a significant Nelson building. The Marseille tile floor in the entrance hall, the Italian marble fire surround and the cast iron work of the verandah are especially noteworthy. The house was built in 1899 by an English bricklayer for his own residence and there have been only two other owners in its first hundred years.
