The
IKS Bortas was the flagship of the Klingon Defense Force prior
to the commissioning of the IKS Negh'Var. It served as the
flagship of Chancellor K'mpec, followed by his successor,
Chancellor Gowron. The word 'Bortas' in Klingon means 'revenge'.
(The ship's length is defined as 3/4 the length of the Starfleet
Galaxy Class.)
This model was built with no modifications. It was basecoated with an aerosol spray called Medium Blue
from a decorative paint line. The color is a blue-gray tone.
The model was originally painted as the first generation Attack
Cruiser from The Next Generation, but was altered a few years
later to be the second generation style with prominent red
markings reminiscent of 'Kronos I' from Star Trek VI.
The
aft disruptor arrays were painted with Gunze-Sangyo Middlestone
with Light Gray emitters.
Many of the overall panel shades on the ship were painted Flat
Red, Light Gray, Light Sea Gray.
Vents and intakes were painted Dark Tan, with the exception of
the large radiator vents near the aft upper section. These areas
were heavily dry brushed with Flat Black.
The auxiliary deflector dish was painted Gloss Yellow.
All windows on the model were painted Gloss White.
The hydrogen collectors and warp grilles were painted Gloss
Red.
The
forward weapons pod contains the cruiser's main armaments. The
color around the forward torpedo area has Mat Sky Blue bands,
which light up when a torpedo is fired. The small dash-shaped
disruptors were painted with Gunze-Sangyo Middlestone.
The primary navigational deflector is Gloss Yellow. Many of the
underside panels were painted Sand as detailed accents.
