On this page we have the damaged Enterprise from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. I built this out of the box with obvious modifications to the saucer.

The damaged area to the forward saucer was constructed by placing wooden toothpicks at the appropriate angles (by looking at the grid lines on the saucer plastic) to form the internal skeleton. I then filled the gaps with filler putty and scribed away varying depths to simulate the decks seen edge-on.
The base coat was modified Flat White. Flat Black was added to give it a darker shade. The impulse crystal was Insignia Blue, and the impulse engine was scribed and painted Medium Gray. (It was not painted red because it was dying...the engine was off).
The RCS thrusters can be seen with some damage on the lower starboard area again delivered by the Reliant's attack.

You can see that the navigational deflector is no longer functioning at this point.
Here's an overhead view showing the extensive saucer damage. All of the '-A' markings had to be trimmed from the registries provided with the kit decals.

The shuttlebay was painted Medium Gray. Colors used for the warp engines included Insignia Blue, Flat Black, Copper, and Medium Gray.

The RCS thrusters were Zinc Chromate Yellow and detailed with the same fine artists marker used to mark in the officer's lounge windows behind the bridge.
