I built Captain Kirk's chair back in '92 after reading the Star Trek Technical Manual. I built the chair in 1:1 scale for two reasons:

A) Because it would be cool to have it in my living room, and...

B) Just to see if I could do it.

The main material in the chair was 3/4" plywood with counter top covering. The drum-shape under the chair was metal. I had planned on lighting the consoles but never did. I took the chair to some local shows and conventions and it was always big hit. After a few years though the chair started to show its age and use, so when I moved to Montreal, the chair was scrapped. I kept any parts that I could re-use to rebuild one, but haven't done so yet
