Microscopy: Key Terms / Concepts:

Cell = Smallest Organized Living Unit

Cell Membrane = Protective Barrier surrounding an Animal Cell

Cell Wall = Protective Barrier surrounding a Plant Cell

Nucleus = Brains of the Cell

Nucleolus = Inner Brain inside the Nucleus that is the Command Centre

Cytoplasm = Gelatinous Material that Surrounds the Nucleus of a cell

Chloroplast = Green pigment which is used by the Plants to Prepare their Food in the form of glucose (Starch/ Sugar)

Photosynthesis = Process that Converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds (especially sugars) using the energy from sunlight

Xylem Cell = Transport Water in Plants (up the plant)

Phloem Cell = Transport Nutrients in Plant (down the plant)

Epithelial Cell = Tissue Cell in an Animal

Starches = Food Source for Cells (Simple and Complex Sugar)
