Chapter 5

"So, Nick. Why are you not going to tell me who this person who has taken over your heart?" Stephiny asked as the two walked through the park licking an ice cream cone each.

Brian had gotten a brain wave and wanted to hit the studio before he lost the song ideas had floating in his head, leaving Nick and Stephy alone for the day. Brian had called AJ to join him in the studio, spoiling Stephiny's plans. So Nick and Stephiny decided to make the most of their spoiled days by spending the day together.

"You'll laugh." Nick blushed as they made their way over to the lake where the 2 had been coming for the last few years that they could talk with no interruptions and just be two best friends, not the heart throb of the Backstreet Boys and the younger sister of another.

"When have I ever laughed at you? Remember when you told me the first time you jacked off? I never laughed then. Why would I laugh now?" Stephiny said seriously as they sat under a tree.

"Well, this is different then usual." Nick still was blushing.

"Come on Nicky. I told you when I first liked Alex. You thought I was crazy, but you didn't laugh. Then you  helped set us up. I owe you one." Stephiny pleaded, hoping she could set her best friend up with some one he really cared about.

"No. Steph. This is different then before. I have a friendship with them and if they find out that I am sweet on them it will ruin the friendship." Nick whined as he threw the last piece of his ice cream come to the ducks.

"A friendship is a great way to start a relationship. You already know about them and they know about you."

"But then the sex is weird and if you break up and then you have lost a really special friendship." Nick hung his head   low and played with the hem of his shirt.

"Why are you always such a damn pessimist, Carter?" Stephiny asked and smacked him on the shoulder.

"Because I've had such bad results in my past relationships." whispered Nick.

"Name one." Stephy challenged.

"Well, Anna stole my TV and stereo. Kathey spread rumours about me in the National Enquirer. Lets not forget Bridget who broke my nose. Oh and Cindy when I broke it off with her took off with a key to my house." Nick spat bitterly.

"Nicky. Those were bad people. You just need to trust some one."

"You're the only girl I've ever really trusted though. I don't want to trust anyone else." Nick whispered and began to sob. Stephiny slid over beside him and then wrapped her arms around him.

"Nick, If you would only open your heart, you would see what's really there. I see what it is. You are scared that people will hurt you in the end. I know. But if you learn to trust someone they can't and won't hurt you." Stephiny coaxed Nick into stopping his tears.

"I do trust people." Nick said in defense.

"Name 10."

"Well, I trust you with anything. Let's see. Brian, AJ, Kevin and Howie......Um, Aaron and BJ."

"See, Nick. You know I love you a lot and I want what best  for you. You have to trust people more. Not everyone is out to hurt you."

"I know. And this new person in my life already told me before that they'd never hurt me." Nick added.

"There you go. it's not that bad trusting people is it Nicky?"

"No. Not really." Nick chuckled.

"So who is it?" Stephy pushed.

"First I have to tell you something more important." Nick whispered.

"What is it? You know you can trust me."

"I think I'm Bi."
