Chapter 16

After the show, everyone got back to the hotel, then headed off to bed. Nick went into his room and saw Serenity asleep.

"Good. I don't wanna put up with what she has to say tonight." Nick thought to himself and then stripped down to his boxers, then slipped into bed. looking up to the ceiling, he couldn't get Alex's song out of his head. The lyrics were enchanting and the music captivating. Humming the song to himself, his mind began to wander to the past, parts of it which included Alex.

*Flashback*

Nick sat looking around the room at the 4 guys he had gotten to know really well over the past 10 months. Now they were sitting in a room, at an office building, in Tennessee, waiting for management to return.

"Hey, Nick. I heard that the girl they are going  promote on the tour is your age." Brian said. "Now you'll have someone your own age to hang out with."

"Yeah, no offence to you guys or nothing, but I feel like a kid around ya." Nick laughed.

"That's cause you are a kid, Nick." AJ laughed.

"Shut up, AJ." Nick shot the 16 year old a glare meaning 'I'll get you later'. Just then the door opened.

"Hello, guys. I'm sure you're all anxious to meet this young lady. Here is the end off your wait. Guys, please welcome Alexa Sullivan." Lou moved aside and there stood a young girl. She looked really shy and afraid to be in a place where she was the only female. "I'll leave you guys to be aquatinted." Lou added then left.

"Hi. I'm Kevin, that' AJ and Howie over there and this is Brian and Nick." Kevin introduced everyone.

"Hi. I'm Alex. Please don't call me Alexa. Only my family does." Alex smiled, shyly.

"I hear you have a beautiful voice. Would you mind singing something for us?" Kevin asked, trying to make her comfortable.

"O...Okay." Alex said and then her face lit up. Nick could tell by that guesture, that singing was one of her biggest passions in life.

Nick leaned back and prepared to hear something like when his sister BJ sang to the radio. Alex opened her mouth and began to sing the song she sang for her church on a regular basis, Amazing Grace.

Kevin's eyes went wide when he heard the wonderful voice on this small girl. Nick was completely blown away with her voice as were Brian Howie and AJ.

"Wow." was all Nick could say, both about her voice and physical appearance. She was awfully cute, and best of all, she was his age, and this could all lead somewhere.

~2 months later~

"Brian can I talk to you?" Nick asked as he and Brian sat in their room, watching a soccer game.

"Sure. You know you can." Brian said and than put the hotel TV on mute. They were in New York, performing for 2 schools. Alex had been a big hit, and all the guys had grown attached to her in some way. Because they were such a low budget tour, they were all sharing the same bus, but no one really minded.

"Well, you're 19. You've like been with girls, right?" Nick questioned.

"Yeah. I have been." Brian laughed.

"Well, how do you ask a girl out?" Nick blushed.

"You like Alex don't you." Brian grinned.

"Yeah."

"Don't worry about it. As long as you want to do it, and act confident about it, she'll say yes." Brian told his younger friend.

"Thanks." Nick smiled then jumped up and ran out into the hall. There was Alex walking down the hall.

"Hey Nick." She said.

"Hi, Alex. Um, can I talk to you?" Nick asked, nervously.

"Sure. What's up?" Alex replied.

"Um, I was wondering if maybe you..." He trailed off and began to rub his toes on the floor.

"If I would what?" Alex questioned.

"If you would like to be my girlfriend." He spat out.

Alex stood speechless and then smiled.

"I would love to." She smiled and Nick's face lit up.

"Really?" He asked, happily.

"Yeah." She giggled and then took his hand.

"Nick. I have to talk to you." Alex said, walking into their room.

"Sure, baby." Nick relied and turned off his game. Alex sat on the bed beside him and that was when Nick noticed her tears. "What's wrong? Ally?" Nick panicked.

"I was just in a meeting with Darren, and I have to go back to Tennessee to record my album in a week and a half."

"Oh, baby. It's okay." Nick told her and then held her under his arm.

"No. He told me...that...you and I have to break up." She sobbed.

"Wh...wha...what?" Nick stuttered and then looked at her with a saddened face.

"Yeah. He...told me that it would be better for my image." Alex cried.

"Fuck." Nick cursed. Alex knew he was upset because Nick never cursed.

"I know. I tried to reason with him, but it didn't work." Alex whispered as Nick held her closely.

"We'll try to work around it. Hopefully we can be just friends for a few years." He whispered.

~Present Day~

Nick woke up in a cold sweat.

"Shit. That all seemed so real." He said, then looked over at Serenity, hoping he hadn't talked in his sleep. Much to his surprise, she wasn't there.

"Serenity?" He asked and then heard something in the bathroom. He got up and then walked over to where the light was on and the door was open.

There sitting on the toilet seat was Serenity, sniffing cocaine.

"Serenity?" He asked, a little pissed off at her.

"Shit!" Serenity exclaimed, dropping the mirror.

After the show, Brian and Leighanne went to there room and got into bed.

"Alex did a really good job tonight." Brian commented.

"Yeah. But she was singing to some one." Leighanne allowed to slip out. She realized what she said and slapped a hand over her mouth.

"What? Who was she singing to Leigh." Brian said, thinking he knew.

"Alex still loves Nick, but is convinced he hates her." Leighanne sighed.

Brian couldn't help but laugh.

"It's not funny, baby." Leighanne said seriously.

"It is because Nick is convinced of the exact same thing." Brian chuckled.

"Really. Oh, now I have an idea." Leighanne laughed.

"Good. We'll let everyone else in on it tomorrow." Brian smiled, happy that Nick may soon be happier.

"Yeah." Leighanne said, thinking the same about Alex.
