Statue of Horus
King Tut's amulet. He wore this around his neck to protect himself from sickness and evil.
The following is taken from the World Book.
"Horus was the ancient Egyptian god of the sky. Egyptians thought the king was Horus in living form. He was the first Egyptian god recognized as a national god, and he was worshiped in both Lower and Upper Egypt.
Horus was the son of Isis and Osiris. He was called " the great king of gods, king of the land, and king of the world, who spans the sky with his wings, and covers the land with his pinions." His sacred bird was the flacon.
He was pictured either as a flacon or a human body with a falcon's head, capped by the double crown or Upper and Lower Egypt. As the life-giving god, he held the symbol of life, in his right hand."
