Dear Editor:
In light of the many televised anti-Bush and anti-war protests I felt this story would be worthwhile to share: My mother and I were in Applebee's on the evening of March 19, when President Bush came on the television to address the nation. My heart then swelled with pride in my little city because the restaurant grew very quiet. Every eye and ear was trained on the president, the only sounds were coming from the kitchen, and within minutes the restaurant was soundless. We all watched as President Bush made a short but meaningful speech, ending with a salute to our troops. I was so moved that when his speech ended I started clapping and suddenly several tables joined my informal salute to the nation by joining in applause. So step back, Dixie Chicks and everyone else who thinks our president has gone wrong! There is a small town in New Mexico that is rallying for our troops and our commander in chief, and I suspect that we are not alone! President Bush is not an arrogant man with a thirst for power and war, he is simply the leader of a great nation that is striving to protect those rights set forth so long ago of life, liberty and property. As citizens of the United States each of us has the right to disagree with our leaders; however, we should never forget to honor the decissions of our president, and respect the men and women who have sworn to sacrifice even their lives if need be in the noble effort of defending human liberties wherever they may go. God Bless America Lila C. Jones Roswell, NM |
