- Club Reports
- East Meadow - had 150 members come to the first meeting; had a school
clean up; visited Holly Patterson; went to Special Olympics; will have a car wash Oct. 17; will be attending the Diabetes Walk; helped out at Meet
the Teacher Night; collecting glasses.
- Elmont - will have a car wash this Saturday; went to the Special Olympics; had school clean ups.
- Uniondale - have had 2 meetings; will walk the Diabetes Walk and the Sickle Cell Walk; went to Special Olympics; having a membership drive.
- West Hempstead - having a huge membership drive, have had 2 meetings and lots of new faces; went to Special Olympics; helped at Kiwanis Pasta
Dinner; planning for October.
- W. T. Clarke - went to Special Olympics; visited Holly Patterson; having a membership drive; planning for October and going to Friendly’s.
- Divisional/District News
- Back to School Mailing should have come to all schools. LtG Robyn encouraged all clubs to have an officers meeting to discuss the contents of the mailing.
- IDD Awareness
- Friday, September 24, ABC’s 20/20 had a show about IDD.
- October is IDD Month.
- NYD Convention
- There will be new workshops in addition to the usual ones.
- Surveys were distributed to get a feel for what kinds of new workshops were wanted. The new workshop ideas were Newcomers Workshop, residents/Advisors Summit, Internet Workshop, leadership in Key Club and the Power of Public Speaking, International Programs, District Programs,
Life After Key Club (all about Circle K), Kiwanis Family Relations, Stress and Anger Management, Solving Problems of a Large Key Club, Solving Problems of a Small Key Club, The History of Key Club and the New York District, Icebreakers and Other Meeting Ideas, Town Hall Meeting, Membership and Development/Pump Up Your Club, Destination: Orlando, How to Build a Super
Club, Next Level Of Service... Beginning Training for Key Club Lieutenant Governors, Conference Opportunities, Other Fun Workshops.
- Convention Committees deadline is approaching quickly. Send in application is interested in Sgt. at Arms, contest chair, athletic chair, etc. Committee Chairs must give up two weekends to plan for the convention at Kutshers - but will get a free convention.
- Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Centers - video. There are 3 Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Centers in New York. Money raised most likely goes to the one closest to us, North Shore Hospital. The money is used to educate emergency medical technicians and to save children.
- Kiwanis Family East Conference - the Carolinas are hosting this conference for underclassmen Key Clubbers who want to get more involved in Key Club. Key Clubbers must fly down and then will be taken to the location.
- The 50 mile Long Island Bike Tour will be October 3 at Nassau Coliseum. It starts at 8 am but 15 Key Club volunteers are needed to be there at 6
am. To participate the fee is $30 and you need a helmet! The money raised will go to Friends of Nassau County Parks and Recreation as well as 3 children’s charities.
- District Editor Josh made an announcement that he would like to get some articles and announcements from LISCW to put in the Empire Key. LISCW is his home division and he wants to have articles inside about LISCW. The deadline for the next issue is October 15. Articles can be sent to him by
regular mail or email.
- Hofstra Circle K President Leanne spoke. October 2, the Hofstra Circle K will be hosting a sleepout to promote homeless awareness. Bring donations of food or clothing. It will be going to the Interfaith Nutrition Network. They will also be hosting a K-Family Pasta Dinner from 6-9 pm, October 16. The cost is $3.
- I. Volunteer Opportunities
- Nassau County Medical Center, Playing it Safe Program
- Long Island Fair October 8-11, 14-17 at Old Bethpage. Volunteers also needed for October 5 and 6 to set up.
- Interclubs - the divisional was an interclub for all clubs whose advisors were present. Interclubs are put on the end of the year report form, not the monthly report forms.
- March of Dimes - this Saturday at 32nd St. and Park Avenue S. Student Senate volunteers to help set up programs.
- Kamp Kiwanis - LISC wants to continue to help the children who we send to Kamp Kiwanis. For every child we have sent, it is ideal to have clubs
send a Key Clubber to be that child’s mentor. These kids need older friends and role models that they don’t necessarily have at home.
