Twisted Slumber

Twist,
Scream,
Awake,
From the dream creature I have escaped,
A sigh of relief, yet I lie awake,
For this is not the first time I’ve met him,
In the tangled web of sleep,
And so I stare at the dimly lit walls,
Which so innocently mask my silent wails,
So do I sell my body to insomnia,
Or my soul to the demon of my slumber,
And awake I lay,
Awaiting the sheep to carry me away,
And awake I lay,
And awake I wait,
And awake I ponder,
And asleep I fall,
Deeply and surely,
Back into the grasp,
Of sleep and him,
And he approaches steadily,
And grips me tightly,
And I cannot flee this time,
I can merely,
Twist,
Turn,
Scream,
Asleep.
