Artist Bio

Kathy Wanninger - Woven wall art, fabric art, paper mache sculpture

Title: "Blue Corn Adobe" wall hanging 39"h x 23"w

Ms. Wanninger currently resides in Baton Rouge, La. and has been involved in art since high school. She has created outdoor pieces for public display using only fabric in three dimensional figures larger than life. Presently she is involved with teaching art at a local Baton Rouge school where she tries to get her pupils to look at the art all around them and take a non-conventional approach.

Ms. Wanninger is an environmental artist, utilizing many mundane and throw away items, recycling them to become beautiful art pieces. She was commissioned to sculpt the center piece for StoneTree Gallery using paper mache. The result is a twelve foot tall "Stone Tree" in the center of the gallery which symbolizes life springing up from sterile surroundings. The piece has the organic look and feel of a real living tree but appears to be made of stone as it rises up from the sculpted boulders at its base.

Ms. Wanninger also creates in ceramic (making jewelry and other usable art), fabric, beadwork, three dimensional fabric art, floor cloth pieces, and she paints as well as sculpts using recycled paper items for her paper mache. She has a lot to say and says it very well with her art.
