StoneTree Gallery
A Fine Arts Gallery in the Heart of New Mexico
StoneTree Gallery is situated in the heart of Torrance County, New Mexico, in the town of Mountainair.Mountainair, known as the "gateway to the ancient cities", is in the foothills of the Manzano Mountains, 63 miles Southeast of Albuquerque. U.S. Highway 60 and NM State Road 55 intersect in the middle of this quaint mountain town making it easily accessible to East/ West or North/South visitors travelling on Interstate 40 or Interstate 25. Sitting on the old Spanish Salt Mission Trail, it was a crossroads in the Spanish Colonial days in the 1500's and 1600's. Many nearby families can trace their land titles to the Spanish Land Grants given by the King of Spain, and their families still reside on the land that was titled to their ancestors.
StoneTree Gallery, at 207 W. Broadway, is in the heart of Mountainair. Highway 60 is named Broadway as it winds through town. The gallery is housed in an old converted wharehouse built around 1950 in the shadow of the Santa Fe Railroad and the pinto bean industry. Mountainair was the "pinto bean capitol" of the country until the dust bowl and the great depression hit. Many farmers just "ran out of beans" and endurance and left to find their fortunes elsewhere.
StoneTree Gallery is one of 10 art galleries in Mountainair, which is fast becoming a major art center in central New Mexico. Artists and patrons travel from Santa Fe and Albuquerque regularly to visit these galleries. Travelers from all over the U.S and abroad come to view the Salt Missions and the Pueblo ruins located in the area around Mountainair.

The centerpiece of the gallery is a sculpted "stone tree" and boulders, simulating life rising up from the barren ground. This commissioned sculpture is 12 feet tall, centered in the gallery, and is surrounded by wonderful original art. Ms. Kathy Wanninger, an environmental artist from Baton Rouge, La., created the piece from recycled throw away items. Her work has an organic appearance and form. Even the gallery floor is an art work of faux stone and must be seen to be appreciated!

You will certainly enjoy your trip to this scenic area of culture and history. A tour of this unique gallery will certainly be enjoyable and well worth the trip to Mountainair.
Hope to see you soon!
