The Fool's Journey - Empowerment Using Oracles

In the world of Tarot, the Fool asks us to suspend judgement - to find the child within, to know that Great Spirit will be there to cushion all falls, to know that it is safe to explore whatever our minds can conceive. In this spirit, let us take a look at some of the many ways that we can take Oracles - tools of divination, into our everyday lives and use them, alone or combined, to gift ourselves with both the joy of the journey and the wisdom that journey holds for us.

Oracles (Tarot, Runes, I Ching ... even astrology) are most often used to track time and events - past, present and future. Many people have the mistaken impression that oracles are set in stone - that our future is set out before us - that we in essence have no choice. Oracles used in a divinatory manner can tells us how we got where we are (past), the energies of where we are (present) and the energies that will be available to us in the future. Notice that I said *energies that are available to us*. We have free will - we can make choices that make best use of the energies available to us.

What are some of the ways that we can use oracles in a creative manner that allows us to find the child within - that allows us to follow the road less traveled without fear? One way would be through the use of affirmations. For example, the Fool in Tarot might empower you to say: "On this day I open myself to all of life's possibilities." The Rune Teiwaz (The Warrior) might empower you to say: "I have the courage and patience to look within for my answers." Take the basic nature of the oracle you are working with and deliberately choose to place that energy in your life.

Meditation is another magickal way to use oracles. Often we need healing in our lives - in many different ways. We may need to heal from loss (of relationship, of job ...), we may need to heal from growth (self growth, spiritual growth), we may need to heal from acceptance (learning to love and accept ourselves for who and what we are). How we need to heal determines the energy that we need to pull in. For heart healing, I might use Temperance in the Tarot. For self growth I might use either the Hermit or the Hierophant in the Tarot or Dagaz (Breakthrough, Transformation) in the Runes.

We can also take meditation one step further - into ritual/ceremony. Let us use heart healing as an example. We can choose an area within our home to set up an alter - using as much or as little as we choose to put into it. The alter can be as simple as leaving the card/Rune/I Ching tetra gram that we are working with out in a place that is visible to us - one that we pass often during out day. Each time we pass it, we take a moment to contemplate the images there - we bring the energy of the oracle into our psyche. The alter can also reflect more of our nature - we can put more that one oracle out, we can add flowers, pictures or candles. Whatever represents to us the energy that we are calling in to our lives.

Thank you for visiting me on this day. May you take the power of these thoughts into your day.
