Story Writing Lesson
"Shamus and his pig"
Revising - editing- publishing
Lesson: After writing a story by looking at a picture, the students can check their work for structure, grammar, and spelling errors.
Student Materials: PC, pencils, and paper
Teacher Materials: PC, a marker, a set of large pictures, and overhead transparencies.
Objectives:
After the lesson, the students will be able to check their story to make sure that it makes sense. The story should be typed on a PC using Microsoft Word 97 or above. This software will underline grammar and spelling errors.
Set:
I will return to the set of pictures used before to find what students have written. For those who are ready, those students will begin the work on the PC.
Input:
I will introduce the lesson by showing interesting pictures and asking the students to share their stories with either me or the whole class. Those who are ready will work on the PC.
Modeling:
I will write and say the words in Standard English.
Guided Practice:
The students and I will discuss what they think might make a good story. The class and I will talk about how to check to see if the story makes sense (reading it out loud).
Independent Practice:
The students will correct their own stories. This is their revised copy, by which they will type up now or at a later time.
Closure:
After we have completed the discussion about the stories, I will have the students finish their own story.
Evaluation:
I will compare the individual stories to the ones discussed in class to see if the students came up with any more ideals on their own. I will also check to see if the students learned what they wanted to learn from the discussion.
