Read for understanding, find meaning in text. Read to decode .

Have many strategies for finding what the text is trying to say. Have few strategies for finding what the text is trying to say.
Read and reread the text. Seldom reread.
Read to understand the story.  Read to answer the teacher's questions.
See the scenes in the text or visualize the story. Seldom visualize the story.
See the relationships in the stories. Seldom see the relationships found in the stories.
Predict what may happen in the story and check their predictions. Seldom predict what may happen in the story.
Collaborate with other students or the teacher in their reading. Seldom seek help in their reading.
